no. tacomas are like most other toyotas. they have a simple switch on the domlight itself that has a switch with an 'ON' 'OFF' and 'DOOR' position. this switch operates the domelight. to disable lighting when the door is open, simply switch the switch to the 'OFF' position.

I use the dimmer switch because having the dash lights all the way up gives me a headache if I'm driving for a long distance at night, so I set them quite low. Also when I know I'm going to be starting in extreme cold I turn the dimmer all the way down so the lights are off. It probably doesn't help much, but it's a little easier on the battery, anyway.

It comes in handy, currently my dimmer is turned halfway down, i hate it being so bright, especially driving down really dark highways, the glare really sucks

I believe the led's they use next to none for current.

Sometimes if I am going to be on the interstate for long drives in the night, I just set the cruise and turn the dimmer all the way off

I dim mine too, I love that little dial.

I prefer the greenish colour interior lights in my Supra and 82 SR5 Pickup though.

I have mine set at about 25% and it stays there. If traveling on long trips at night in little or no traffic, it goes completely off.

I drive at night all the time for school and my glasses i use for driving are kind of cheap so the dash lights kind of magnify from my glasses so my dash lights are always down almost as low as you can go and still see the dash. plus i feel like the color of the lights is a little obnoxious imo.

As others have already commented..... I set mine half way to reduce eye strain and haven't touched it since.
