I've also used it to run a coffee grinder and a coffee machine. I have a small 13 foot camp trailer and I can plug the trailer in and have power in it.

Standard USB ports put out 0.5 Amps not 0.5 Watts. USB is 5volts so you have to convert from 12 down to 5, and then 0.5 Amps at 5 volts is 2.5 watts. Most of the chargers are 1 to 2.1 amps at 5 volts though which is 5 and 10.5 watts respectively not taking into account conversion losses.

Buy a 2.1amp USB cigarette socket adapter and things will charge much faster.

Ahh standard USB is actually 500 ma/2.5 W, thought I was reading that as 500 mw which would have been a half watt. That's still a lot less power than the inverter in the bed though.

I do have a USB cigarette socket adapter, because my truck's USB port always has a music stick in it. It's still completely worthless for trying to charge a Garmin Alpha handheld and dog collar at the same time through a single connection though.

Not sure what kind of charger the Alpha uses, but it has a splitter on the end to plug both devices into a single charger. After an hour of driving around with the USB cigarette adapter, I only get maybe a 5 % charge. After an hour of driving around on the AC outlet in the bed I get way more than that, probably at least 30 - 40%.

The output of the USB port built into the dash is 0.5 mA. I never use it to charge anything. Cigarette socket adapters for the win. I have 2 adapters, each have 2x2.1 Amp usb ports for charging.

Phone/Tablet, Garmin Montana GPS, 650 Lumen helmet light, helmet camera, and portable 13Ah USB battery pack when needed. The nest of cables can get intense but it works out.

    Two of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MSYQ96A/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I've used it quite a bit to charge my dog collar when out hunting. I've also used it with a small crock pot while on my way hunting (had to warm the chili somehow).

I also have a battery charger (which also has a air pump for my airbags) that i can trickle charge and a spot light for shining deer i can also charge back there.

i haven't used it a lot, but it's come in handy a few times.

Hmmm, didn't know that outlet could run a small crock pot. I see some warm homemade chili or beef stew in my future after a cold morning of Steelhead fishing next fall :)

I have a Mr Coffee maker that is 400 watts, but the pot is so tiny that I don't like messing with it. I usually just heat up a big pot of water on a gas burner or over the fire and use a french press out in the woods.

You need to look at the amp. Not just plug it in and hope for it to not blow the fuse. 3.3 amp

I use it to charge laptops during road trips. Few tools and lights.

You whppersnappers are spoiled rotten. Camping is supposed to be out there roughing it, sleeping on rocks and drinking cowboy coffee made over a camp fire. Air mattress pumps and coffee grinders! Humph! Next, someone will say they always pack an electric razor for out in the boonies. You wanna take something useful? Take a woman. Way more satisfying than french pressed coffee. What the hell is french pressed coffee, anyway?

You can still make french press over the fire, all you need is hot water and a press. I do it almost every time.

I've used it for a air-compressor, and to power a stereo at tailgate parties. It's not the most useful or best located outlet, but it's an outlet on a truck. I'd rather have it and not need it...

I need to use it more often. Tried charging my iPhone on it a couple months ago and it wasn't working?.... Turned on truck, pressed button, nothing...
