Does anyone have a factory tonneau cover on their new 2016 Tacoma?

I had a cardboard box stored in mine for a couple of weeks, right after I got my new truck. When I went to take the box out, I discovered that water had dripped on it and it was a little soggy (I was still holding together, though, so it never got more than "damp").

I was irritated that the cover wasn't water tight. I noticed that I could slip a finger under the rear end when the toneau was down. I lifted the rear section about 6 to 8 inches and let it drop into place. After that, I checked it after a heavy overnight rain--dry as a bone! It appears as if I discovered the double-click latch behavior.

I never intended to get the OEM cover but it came with it. Its ok. I wasn't really interested in adding one at all but its nice to have. It does leak a little bit of water in a lot of rain. If I had to guess on how much I'd say just enough to cover the bottom of a coffee cup. Most of its dribbling running down each side. No ponding. Anything I need to keep completely dry goes in the cab or waits for better weather.

Note: I just walked outside and tried the double click and it only clicked once. The bed cleat was right under the locking mechanism and the rubber foot was resting on top of it. I closed the cover & tailgate, pressed down on the mechanisms and click. Got the 2nd click didn't know about. I'll update when we get another rain to see if its completely water tight now.

I have found that my cover let more water in at first, but has since had less water enter. assuming that the seals had to set. still not completely water tight, but not bad at all. the middle is usually completely dry

I'm not that upset about it. Its better than no cover and I'm happy with the price I paid for the truck so I'm still considering it a win.

Thats pretty much the exact same thing I've seen with mine. Once discovering the second latch on the rear and making sure the tie downs are out of the way, I've been pretty happy with it. It was already on the truck I wanted so I figured I'd give it a shot, worse case scenario I take it off and replace it with something I like better. It's not 100% water tight but it seems to be very secure, which is really why I'd want one in the first place. If I want something 100% dry, I'll put it in the cab or a pelican case in the bed. Now that I've had it a while, it does seem to seal better than it did initially.

Have the factory cover on my Limited and it fits great. Make sure that you put the bed tie-downs that come with the truck in the right places or the cover won't be able to "click" and lock in place.

Morning all! I wasn't to keen on the Tonneau cover at first, but it definitely has grown on me. First off, you need to close the tailgate first, then close the cover. You then need to press down both rear corners hearing a audible 'click'. The cover has posts like a door and the locking mechanism on the cover like a door. The second section is designed the same way. I'm sure the first section secures likewise. Once secured down, it's secured as well as your truck doors. Care to say, no aftermarket tonneau has this good of security. Excellent tonneau, see how Toyota deals with the very slight seepage people are complaining about. IMHO, When secured properly, it's an excellent cover.

I have the factory cover and I think it's great! I really don't have any leaks either, I've had a Brand new TV in the bed and drove through a mild rain storm and the box remained dry as when I loaded it. Also the plastic seems to be VERY durable and thick. (Sure isn't light). So IMO it's a win, mostly water tight, durable plastic, and easy removal.

My truck came with the factory tri fold cover. I didn't want it, but it came with it anyway so I figured whatever. Turns out, I like it. Not 100% water tight, but no cover will be, because water can easily get into the bed between the taillight and tailgate. The operation of the cover is super easy, along with full removal and reinstallation.

I will post it up after they replace it. Anything has to be better than the flooded bed area I was experiencing before.

Are you referring to the rubber seal attached to the tonneau cover?

I have the factory cover and as was mentioned above, the rear panel is tough to latch. I close the tailgate then fold the last section down and lean on each side with my elbow in the general area of the strikers until I hear it click. I have not found a way to adjust the strikers up a bit to make it easier to latch. However, once it is latched securely I can go through a power car wash with hardly any leakage inside the bed. I plan to mention this when I take it in for its 5K service but I'm pretty sure the response will be "working as designed" :) .

I close the rear panel first, then shut the tailgate.

Just picked mine up last night and was also concerned about the gap in the back I where I could put my finger in....

Moved the cleats out of the way, then closed it, then went for the second click on each side, pressed down right above the TRD graphics and it sealed perfectly. Nice and tight.

That sucks! If that's the replacement cover. It definitely didn't fix the leak problem.

It's not the replacement yet...... I live on a island (Nantucket) and haven't been able to make it to the dealer for a replacement yet.

There once was a man from Nantucket ....

Used to live in MA. Not a lot of options for a Toyota dealership there.
