I believe the 4X4 switch is also a location for a clock on other models. Could be the power lead. I am not positive. I just think I remember seeing it at some point

It may also be the illumination wire for the 4x4 switch for the 4runners. you know the 4runners are special enough to get the switch illuminated

looks like the same colored wire going to the reverse wire for the truck...see if it traces to the kick panel on the drivers side and taps into a red wire...if so, thats what it was for...if it goes behind the glove box or to the fuse box under the hood, then it was prolly for the VSS wire

I believe jhodge86 is right, it look like it is for after market stereo wiring too.

007...most dvd players that i know of have a software limiter that if it senses the parking brake is not set, then it wont play dvd's. there isnt a seperate wire. the easy way to get around that is to connect that parking brake wire from the harness to the ground in the harness. always shows an engaged brake. newer systems though can sense that the brake wire is grounded and will still disable the video play while moving

Ok, wait. I am confused (nothing new here).

It isn't a separate wire, but how do you get around it (too many beers to think this through).

pop the kick panel off on the drivers side and see if it connects down there. it should be that reverse sensor wire. was the old unit a pioneer?
