I know for a fact that the jeep, dodge slider pin design really sucks. But the real issue with this brake caliper design is the brake pads seize to the brackets within 6 months no matter the lube, anti-seize or rust inhibitor. I've been a professional technician for 30 years, 20 with Ram, Dodge, Jeep. I know the corrosive environment doesn't help but that should be worked into the engineering design. Ha Ha.
I've owned 2 Tacoma's since 2012 and never once replaced the brakes.

As far as mass produced vehicles are concerned, toyota fixed caliper brakes are one of the best designs on the road.

Grease the pins all you want, it's just going to wash off in 3 weeks anyway

Sounds like a simple design to have made by a machinist, out of 316 stainless.

That link to ProBoltUSA, reminded me how long it has been since I ordered titanium fasteners from them. Le sigh

I just take a 2" buffing pad to them every other oil change. They see alot of road debris so most coatings or grease dont last too long.

I tore it down today as I wait for my parts to arrive. 300 miles after PA state inspection, my left front pad is totally smoked…. metal on metal! He checked off that he looked at the wheel but there’s no way! I sent pictures to my PA state inspection station to which I got a response of huh ‍♂️.

The inner pad is slightly cocked telling me that it was hung up on the pin! I’ve got a slotted rotor kit and heavy duty pads arriving today from Advance Auto.

316 stainless pins sure would look shiny in there. :anonymous:

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I think a lot of your problem it sits so much.

I use copper never seize and never had problems .

Since I no longer work I drive less then 100 miles a month. I will see what happens.

The new shoes have arrived! Extreme Power Stop kit, pads, slotted rotors, and new pins. I didn’t know that the kit included new pins so I’ve now got 4 spares.

Yes I will clean all of that mess up with a wire brush before I reassemble it. I’ll pull it all apart as soon as the outdoor temp and humidity is fit for a human!

It should be a simple matter to order stainless stock of the correct diameter, cut to length, and drill each side for cotter pins.
