Those appear to be one of the many variations of the Knights Templar flags. The star representing the star over the birth of Christ.

I just looked through a few, what makes you think Knights Templar? all the ones I saw had a red cross but with no blue outline

*edit reread about the star, but still does that make since with the blue outline, i dont know much about the Knights Templar, or historical flags

The plain white background with the red cross is one of the most common forms of that flag. The knights even wore them as a tabard. Common misconception was that the cross had to be taller than it was long, but original red Templar crosses were represented as an even cross. When I saw that flag in your photo, that was what instantly came to mind. I may be incorrect, but I feel that I am right. Just a feeling.

I would bet it is not a templar flag.

What does the flag say on the hoist. That is the part of the flag that has the eyelets on it. There looks to be some kind of stamp or print in the same spot on both flags.

I would bet $ they are early version of the Faroe Island.

Edit (on closer look it might just be dirt)
