i dont mean to rain on your parade but if they added 5k to the price of your truck to pay for the warranty instead of buying it outright you just financed that 5k x % over years. So you are paying more than 5k for the price of that warranty.

Salesmen never give you the whole story

No, it is never worth it to buy an extended warranty on vehicle as reliable as most Toyotas.

That doesn't mean it's impossible for the claims payout to be greater than the warranty cost, but the odds are NOT in your favor. You're better off putting that money in a savings account for a rainy day. There are many variables and people make a lottttt of money figuring out exactly how likely you are to need that warranty, to ensure their company makes very healthy profits from you.

Pro Tip: Extended warranties, just like the timeshare seminars the more you say "No" the better the deal gets until they can no longer make any money off of you. Then you know the whole thing is bullshit.

Sales Manager tried to convince me to buy the $9k "Platinum" extended warranty with my truck when I was signing the papers, with Gold through Bronze below it. When I politely interrupted him and pointed at the "Bronze" package (no extension, base price only), he gave me a condescending look and said "Well, I hope nothing breaks on your truck."

Motherfucker, I work on my own vehicles. The urge to walk out then was high. The salesperson I had been working with wasn't a jackass, and I was getting the best price on a 2020 PRO I could get, so I bit my tongue.

If your truck is relatively new and you're primarily after peace of mind... check out Geico MBI (mechanical breakdown insurance). For me, it's ridiculously cheap (60$/year) and has a 250$ deductible. Guys in BMW forums have had seemingly good experiences and even had luck with claims with modded components.

    Example scenario:
Enroll at Year 1 purchase anniversary, renew up to 7yr/100k totals $360. Obviously with a $250 deductible, you won't be running to the dealer for minor issues. But engine/trans/transfer case/axles/bearings/etc. will be nice knowing you'll only be looking at $250.

One other note: I too got suckered into the 7yr/100k platinum warranty from the dealer at $2695. It was super simple to get this refunded. I didn't go back to my dealer, I just called TFS and they told me what to put in a letter, I mailed it in and in a week or so, I had a check for the full $2695.

You bought a Toyota. Forget about it! Like rustproofing extended warrantees are just a way for someone to make some easy money.

For some people the “insurance” just eliminates worrying over unexpected car repair expenses. Well worth the peace of mind to some buyers.

I signed the papers in mid October. If I contact TFS today it's unlikely I'll be getting a full refund? And I also opted for the extended ToyotaCare program. Is this worth it in the long run? My contract is 10 years for both the VSA and Toyota are but I dropped $5k for both

My guess is the refund would pro-rated like a car battery since you “used” almost 3-months.

You should have no problem. I signed for mine in Sept 1 and requested the refund mid October. No matter what, you are always entitled to a refund, they may prorate you at some point. Definitely go for it.

I wonder if your finance person loses his/her commission on the original sale if you get a refund.
