Does anyone recommend an aftermarket warranty for 2019 Taco?

I’m sure they do and it’s all part of the game. Definitely not our problem, especially when they inflate the prices, they are asking for buyer’s remorse.

Get your refund, even if it is prorated. You have 3 years/36000 miles to buy an extended warranty, if you decide later you want it.

I bought a 7yr/75k mile, genuine Toyota extended care Platinum, no deductible, for around $650 just before the factory warranty was set to run out on my 2WD. Of course, 4x4 will cost more.

Call Jennifer at Wolverine Toyota in Michigan (google it). Did everything by e-mail.

I agree, but most people have no idea they can cancel and get a refund, so they just let it ride.

Man, now I don't feel so bad about the Platinum 10/100 no ded plan at $1900 and the 7/75 maintenance for $1600. Probably still overpaid somewhat, but that's ok.

I'll be purchasing an extended warranty for our Tacoma shortly. Like FLA Hoosier mentioned, you can find them reasonably priced from some dealers. The dealer we purchased the truck from tried to sell me one for over $2k claiming it was "normally over $4,000", but I'll end up paying close to what Hoosier quoted.

I was going to buy one for our 4runner as well, but I forgot it ticked three years old in August. Plus, I have more faith in the 4runner haha.

So i recently purchased a 2020 TRD OR. I negotiated to get the monthly payment & duration to where i wanted and they claim they were able to throw in the extended platinum warranty for free (i knew it wasnt free but it was at the payment i wanted so i was happy) I've also been brand loyal to Jeep/Chrysler my entire life, owning three wranglers over the past 10 years where the extended warranties have easily paid for itself in repairs and rental/loaner vehicles costs.
My last Jeep was a 18 Wrangler that i traded in after 4 months for severe steering issues that the dealer wouldnt address and ESS issues (Engine start stop. My battery and alternator were bad at 7k miles..) which made me finally make the switch to Toyota. Anyways, after reading all the first hand posts on the forum about reliability. i decided to cancel the extended warranty and get $2300 back, i had the 7yr/100k/no ded. My payments will be the same but it shaved off 5 months of payments. The process was very easy when i called Toyota Finance and they didnt push back about the cancellation request either. So heres to hopefully not having a vehicle thats in the shop every couple months!

    Yeah.
I'm on my 7th Toyota purchased new (all trucks except for one Matrix). Wife is on her 5th, all 4Runners except for one Highlander. Daughter still has one of the 4Runners, and we have a Corolla for the other daughter when she gets off her butt and gets her license. The only warranty I have purchased was for my first new truck, a '92 base pickup. It only paid out once, and only for a refurbished radiator that ended up leaking (replaced it myself with new that time around). After that experience, I decided they weren't worth the money.

I've had zero issues outside of the base mfg warranty other than that radiator issue that was only $90 in parts and easy to fix. Regular maintenance goes a long way and is not expensive. I would have paid well over $10K in warranties, possibly over $20K if I'd bought one for every vehicle, so I consider myself way ahead at this point since I never would have used them. But, I get it, it's a personal choice -- I don't live in fear that a breakdown will cost me a ton of money, but I recognize there is a chance.

Extended warranty is more like insurance than a warranty. On "average" the repair costs will not exceed your cost for this plan. The warranty/ insurance co. has an army of analysts forecasting repair costs to ensure they don't lose money. ;) This means the decision depends on your individual financial situation. If you can swallow a sudden $3k repair without severe hardship to your day-to-day living, then it's better to decline the warranty. If you can't, and your truck is your DD, then buy the warranty.

If it covers the paint yes, if not I'd probably take my chances without it.

If you have Geico, look into their MBI. You have to be first owner and within a certain number of miles before you initiate. It’s literally like $50-75 per policy period (6 months). Trick is, if you sell before factory warranty is up you don’t get anything back. Well, for that matter if you sell at anytime.

I think terms are 7 years and 100k, I’ll know later tonight as we’re adding it to the wife’s new car.

Never had to use it in prior car, but the rate is so low it’s worth the expenditure... particularly for hers. Less so for the Taco.

All paid warranties are pretty dumb ideas.

It just occurred to me that I refinanced my loan through a different bank several weeks after I purchased the truck, which completely paid off what I owed Toyota (the extended warranty/prepaid maintenance plan was included in the total). Would Toyota still be giving me my pro rated refund or is my loaner now responsible for that?

I would think so. It would be the same as you paying cash up front.

Does this mean I'd have to get my loan refinanced and will it affect my monthly?

Edit: I understand now. I totally forgot I paid a $25k down payment of my own cash to Toyota. So you're right, Toyota should be cutting me a check.

Whether and wherever your loan is financed will not matter. TFS will send you a check with your name and the lienholder name on the TO line. You will want to provide TFS with the lienholder information. My dealer ended up getting my financing thru wells fargo, not TFS. When I received my refund it said "TO: *my name* & Wells Fargo". I took the check to Wells Fargo and deposited it and they applied it to my loan.

I emailed Jennifer and compared her prices for the Tacoma Platinum from our local toyota dealership in Austin, Tx and her prices are almost 50% cheaper. The local guy said Jennifer's prices are below their costs.
The table Jennifer gave me shows 7yr /125k for $1040

I cancelled my third party 6yr/120k for $1360 and was told I am getting $1300 back.
Once I get that refund, I am definitely getting the Toyota Platinum for 7yr/125k from Jennifer

I actually emailed her earlier this morning regarding cancelling my TSA and Prepaid Maintenance. No reply yet.

Extended warranties are all about risk. They are simply another revenue stream for Toyota.

Would I entertain purchasing one for a brand new Toyota vehicle? No. Would I entertain purchasing one for a brand new Land Rover vehicle that I planned on keeping for 10-years? Yes.
