I plan to keep my TRD PRO for as long as I can..should I still cancel the warranty? I'm planning to get new tires/wheels/suspension on it too. In it for the long haul. (no pun intended)

I also used Jennifer for a 2018 4Runner Limited for a 10 year/125k for $1750. As I recall at the time, the dealer wanted $2660 for a 10 year/100k. I'm emailing her as well about my 2019 Tacoma.

Basically an insurance policy that works in the insurer's favor or they couldn't stay in business. A few benefit from extended warranties most do not.

I got a 7yr 65K Platinum warranty from Jennifer at Wolverine Toyota for $650. I may never use it but for that price I had to get it.

    Maybe so!

I’ve never bought an extended warranty before, and honestly I would hope that a Toyota would not require one. Jennifer offered a better price than the dealer, and keep my cars 10+ years, so I went with the 10/125k on my 4Runner. With a previous SUV, between 6 and 9 years it had at least $5,000 in repairs. Even for a Honda Civic that I still have, at 8 years it needed two repairs for $1800. Time will tell...

Gee's you've had bad luck. I've had my '96 Tacoma for 24 years and 414,000 trouble-free years and have only don't maintenance repairs. Hope my '18 TRD Sport fairs that well.

My father in law would always buy Jeeps. He loved them but they were always getting repaired. He spent about $2k on an extended warranty on his last jeep. He doubled his money! Laughed about owning Jeeps (Just Empty Every Pocket) and the constant repairs, but did not have to spend a dime on some MAJOR fixes.

But Toyotas are not Jeeps so probably keep your money.

If you MUST by a Toyota extended warranty at least wait until the tail end of your 36-month/36,000 mile factory warranty.

Yeah, that’s been a big concern of mine. But heck, she barely puts 5k miles/year on hers so I have that going for me.

NEVER. I assume one reason you bought a Toyota is because of their exceptional reliability. Keep you maintenance up to date and enjoy the lack of issue. Owned 4 and never had any issues with failures aside from normal preventive maintenance. Those warranties are a house bet.

When we purchased my used Jeep Liberty we added in an extended warranty because it was close to the end of the manufacturers warranty based on mileage. It wasn't that expensive but I never did use it and it was just more peace of mind because we didn't know how the vehicle had been treated before we got it.

The financial guy at Toyota really tried to sell us hard on an extended (non-factory) warranty but we agreed we weren't going to do that for a new car. He lied a couple times during his pitch and then he pulled the "I hope a computer on your truck doesn't fail" as a last ditch effort. We declined the offer and he was visibly upset but we didn't care. We might entertain an extended warranty offer but we haven't purchased one for anything in a very long time. The up front out of pocket expense doesn't make sense and invariably the things that break aren't covered and those that are covered break after the warranty runs out. Extended (non-factory) warranties are a bear to deal with for the most part as well.

I had the electronics that control the remote door lock/unlock go out on my Tundra while it was still under the 36/36 warranty. If it hadn't been under warranty, would have cost me around $800. The part was over $600. So I'll pay the $135 a year ($11 a month) for 5 extra years of peace of mind. Cheap insurance.

I always come back with: “I see what you’re saying about things breaking. Now I’m really nervous that we should rethink this whole purchase. We chose Toyota because of the reliability reputation but I appreciate you being honest that we shouldn’t really count on that. We’re going to go and have lunch and think about this some more now”.

You gotta say it straight faced.

I’m normally not a dick. But it chaps me when they try and pull crap like that. My marque dealers just ask if I’m interested and I say not a list price. They either budge or don’t. I’m ok either way.

I'm trading in three years I don't need an ESC. Which is pretty much what I plan to do anyway. Plus I only put about 3,500 miles on it every 6 months. I expect to buy the redesigned Ranger or redesigned Tacoma in 3 years so I'm not buying anything for my Ford. Already has a 5 yr/60,000 mi powertrain as part of the cost, So extended Service Contracts (they are NOT warranties) Only cover drivetrain after 60K and 5 years,

The drive train is pretty solid, which is why Toyo give a 5yr/60k warranty. It all the electronic crap that will kill you if it goes out. Hell, one LED DRL alone will cost you the price of the extended care.

But in your case, only keeping the truck 3 years, yeah, you don't need the extra protection.

Over my 47 years driving I've purchased dozens upon dozens of vehicles and have never purchased an extended warranty and have never regretted it.
Throw your $$ away or not, your choice.

Over 47 years, you've NEVER owned a vehicle with the type and number of electronics these vehicles have. Which of those had $700 LED assemblies? As I posted, I had a $600 electronic go out on my 2008 Tundra. I'm not so much worried about the mechanical aspect of this truck, but the electronics.

If you have faith that these electronics will last 8-10 years, best of luck. I don't share such faith. Not going to be kicking myself in 8 years wishing I had that $685 back, if I never use it.

So, after about 16 days I finally received my service plan book, and there's almost zero information about who runs it. After some searching I realize the name of the company is Fidelity. Start looking at reviews.

    Then it hits...

So, going to read what I signed in the morning and see what the process is to cancel both the service contract and the warranty. I already had some regret about it, seeing the reviews just seals it for me. Even if I have to drive back to the dealer a couple of times (about 375mi round trip, it should be worth it.
