Does anyone use A/T tires year round including winter?

For MPG look at the tire weights. If you didn't need an LT AT tire don't get them. They hurt your mileage and general on road driving "spirt".

I have run BFG All Terrain T/A KO2s for years. I run 'em year round. They're killer tires in all conditions here in Colorado. Don't see much of a need to swap out based on the season. As far as MPGs go, you're starting from bad, so it's really not worth splitting hairs over that .3 miles per gallon you'll lose.

I'm in Ottawa, and I only use A/T's with 3 peak snow designation. They are more than adequate in the snow, but not quite as good as an "ice tire".

In 4wd the Tacoma is unstoppable in the snow.

Loved my previous Duratracs, and after 1 winter on my Wildpeaks they too have been great.

Disclaimer: I rarely do Highway driving....

If I’m not mistaken, the three peak mountain designation is a rating for braking performance in snow. Just like the traction rating on the sidewall……it’s for wet braking.
I used to plow snow with standard AT tires and never had a problem but if you deal with ice often, I suggest you use a dedicated winter tire.

There is one other option instead of just A/T and winter and its what is being referred to as the All Weather tire. If the bulk of your driving 99% is city/highway these are probably a better one tire choice that an A/T tire. In almost all cases they will be quieter, give better mpg, be lighter and come with an actual mileage warranty.

    Not really.
This is from a large tire supplier site:
"Some important information to remember about 3PMSF branding.
    • Testing measures a tire's acceleration traction on medium-packed snow only. Braking and turning on snow, along with ice traction are not components of the test."
I use General Tire Grabber ATX year round. They're not overly noisy and work well most of the time.
The only thing not as good as the winter tires on my wife's vehicle in the winter is on ice. I just drive a little slower. Lots of others around me have no traction and I can tell they are on all seasons or badly worn out ones.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
OP, if you did go with dedicated winter tires, you'd only have to buy one set of tires now. The other set could wait until spring.

Dedicated Blizzaks to cut through snow and ice like a blade. ATs to fishtail and slip around while thinking you have better traction than the average chump running all seasons.

I run Hankook AT2 with the 3 peaks year-round. Great in the snow and quiet on the road. They weigh only 39 each and I have not seen a drop in mpg. I have had them for 40K miles.

I have used duratracs, yoko g003's and now yoko g017's studded for winters. The struggle it finding taller tires for winter wheeling so I have always stayed with a rated A/T. I drive a ton of mountain back roads and have had minimal "oh shit" moments even driving on lakes. I see no issue running a single set but dedicated winters will always be better.

For the winter tire folks, do you run 2 sets of wheels or pay to swap out tires at the change of season?

I want to run my cool wheels year round :( so leaning towards paying for tire swaps...

Better solution buy 2 sets of cool wheels. Might save some money but really it's just time it saves over anything if you rotate them yourself.

I use nokian outpost NAT, pretty good all year round. They do okay on mud but tend to get caked easily.

Hmm I think I'll try swapping for 1 winter and see what it costs, then compare that to the price of another set of wheels ($500-$1000)

I've always ran AT, but definitely want to start running winters

I did that with my WRX, had a set of 3 season tires and a set of winter dedicated blizzaks. Took up a fair bit of space in the garage and swapping em twice a year was kind of a hassle because of the tpms.

I just have cloned tpms no re programming required. Just a few tools are 20 minutes to swap em.

Ah nice, I probably would have done similar if garage space wasn't a premium for me.
