Taking my 2017 in for 2nd Factory Service tonight (Maintenance Required message came on). I think I read they don't change the oil on the first dealer check, but do they on the 2nd one? Any way to know if they do?

I'm a little nervous about them holding it for any Recall issues too.

Any other things I should be concerned about?

I'm a tad bit paranoid about dealer service. I'd rather do it myself.

Run it through the recall checker to see if there are any open recalls...if not, then you don't have to worry about them holding it for that anyway...

Toyota Care gives you a 10k and 20k oil change service. some dealers will comp you a 5k light inspection service and tire rotation, but no oil change unless you request and pay for it.

You can check the dipstick and see fresh oil on it...other than that, no guarantees that they changed your filter.

I'm on the same boat kinda. I did my own oil change just before 5k now rolling towards 10k.
I'm not one to pass up a "free" oil change. However, I'm a paranoid bastard and think that if I take it in, they won't change it but still say that they did. So, I'm going to ask them to pull a sample for analysis. I will also mark my filter housing and drain plug to make sure they actually spun them off.

I'm more worried about the JiffyLube reject stripping the drain plug or forgetting to tighten something.

Taking my truck in Wednesday and requested the oil change to be done at 2500 miles. The service department said toyota care will pay for it. I sprayed the drain plug and filter housing with Wurth Leak powder spray and I'll inspect the truck prior to leaving.

Do you need to know, or care?
I wouldn't worry about the that. You need a Master Mechanic degree to work at Speedy Lube.

Oh wait, you said JiffyLube. They can strip a bolt faster than a whore can take her clothes off for a $20 bill. And the oil filter is about as tight as........never mind.

It also gets a new free cabin filter at 20k mark! That is also included in the Toyota care maintenance

Lol dammit. I replaced mine at 20k on my own. My service schedule is off because of my extra trips to the service department so they've done some stuff early. I'm due to go in right now at 23k, and I'm not sure what they are going to be doing. Probably just a rotation and inspection.

    I might skip it.

I work at the dealership and we just got a sheet saying that. Makes me wonder how many people haven't gotten them replaced.

I had them change the oil and manually inspect trans fluid fill at my 5k service. They didn't charge me anything to do it few. Truck just rolled 10k miles and I did amsoil signature which will stay in till 20k since I used my 10k oil change at 5k.

Just do it yourself. It's faster than going to the dealer and waiting for them to do it. And will cost you $25 for a jug of Mobil 1 and a filter element on Amazon.

My dealer replaced the oil and filter at my 1st service (8,000 kms / 5,000 miles) free of charge and again at 16,000 kms (10,000 miles) but i had to pay for that service.

Here's my filter after 5100 miles. I could have had the dealer do it at 5K but then loose the tire rotation and would have to pay for the 10k one... Lots of discussion about no oil change till 10k miles. I think that is way too long. Piece of mind for $30 Mobil 1 and Toyota filter... Hard to tell in the pic but some shiny metal in there.
