Still looking at some 1st Gen options and came across a 1999 with a salvage title. The Carfax show initial use in the Virginia area, which might have rust / corrosion issues. I have only looked at online photos of the truck, but it is only about 75 miles away. I haven't seen anything to indicate severe collision / rollover from the photos. The Salvage Title status is from April 2006 in Virginia. I know different states have different "total loss / salvage" criteria. Was Toyota doing frame replacements then? Thanks in advance.

Can't imagine why it would, as no insurance (usually the determiners of 'salvage') is involved.

Some may show on CarFax (IDK?) if the dealer reports the work via them, or if the dealer record of the change is something that CarFax scrapes.

When the frame was replaced on my 06 in February, there was no mention of changing the title to salvage or anything like that.

There was no frame replacement for that era, it was a buy back, frame replacement didn't start until the 2001 model

We decided to pass on this one, although it appeared to have a very professional repair. 10 years and 80K+ more miles with no issues, according to the seller, but you know how that is. Thanks for the replies.

That is the thing different states Salvage titles are so very different .

I bought several Celica`s over the years that had salvage titles here in PA.

All of them it was something minor that the owner just did not want to be bothered.

My 2004 has had a salvage title since 2005 and it runs like a top, simple rear end damage. If done correctly it's no big deal. Plus I saved 4K on the purchase price because of it.

If it's near me I can take a look at it for you.
