Just run top tier gasoline. Detergent matters more than octane. I have a few sources of good priced ethanol free near my home but I travel throughout some low population areas for work. So I keep this list to minimize fillups with potential subpar gasoline.(real bad gas will cause performance issues or even stop the vehicle in its tracks.)
You can see the benefits here. Below Isthe current list. Costco is on this list..Sams club is not.

You are likely ok to use 85 octane. If you are at high altitude there is less oxygen, therefore less compression and you don't have a turbo to compensate for the drop in compression. This is why 85 is available at high altitudes. What altitude above sea level are you at?
Because of the high altitude you truck makes way less horsepower on most days than the trucks that run at sea level. Depending on how high up you are you could be only making as little as 220hp.

Holy crap, the misinformation in here is comical. I can't believe there are people who have convinced themselves that higher octane gas makes their truck run smoother, or get better mileage. Higher octane gas is for engines with higher compression that require it. Putting 93 in an engine designed for 87 is just stupid and a total waste of money. Concerning brand name vs generic it's the same story. The EPA has minimum requirements for detergents that are pretty consistent across the board. Gas is gas, you're just a sucker if you think otherwise. For small engines or marine applications it's generally better to run ethanol free fuel since it has a much longer shelf life. The other reason is that older small engines are prone to corrosion from the ethanol, but even that has changed with most manufacturers now building their products to protect against corrosion. Do what you want, but a simple Google search could have answered your question.

A lot of the higher grade gas here doesn’t have ethanol. Maybe that’s why the butt dyno and gas mileage is better for people.

All gas is equal at the refinery but only Top Tier gas has extra detergent (added at the refinery) beyond the federal standard for detergent.

Yes, gas makes a huge difference. My truck won't go anywhere without it.

My 2007 Taco SR5 initially ran great on 87. Summer of 2010 saw it start to spark knock like crazy. I switched to 93 and it ran great without problems, unless I tried 87 again. My 2018 runs fine on 87...for now.

Our engines are shared with Lexus. What I don’t understand why ours use 87 lexus use 93. for the first year of owning the truck I used 87 but I got curious and ran a few mid tanks and idk if it’s a coincidence but my gas mileage went up slightly about half a mile to a mile more per gallon and I did try going back to 87 and ran a few tanks as well and got about half a mile to a mile less per gallon. So I’m not sure I don’t really believe in the “power differences” and all the non sense with higher ocante fuel but I just can’t explain why it’s better with higher octane than other with 87

It depends on the level of stank in the tank.
