Also the other aspect of resale value, not many people are going to buy trucks without tow features. And when they see it's and add on and not OEM it will steer potential buyers away. OP needs to go back to the dealerhsip with the ad in hand and tell them to lookup the vin as well as the lack of transmission cooler and why the leads are not where their supposed to be.

OP sorry you're having to deal with this mess. Can you share the ad? I'm curious how they worded it as there is a big difference between aftermarket and OEM tow package. I'm assuming this was not a toyota dealer?

Was it a Toyota dealer or a car lot on the corner?

To be honest, I’m not planning on towing much, if at all. But since I thought I had it, now i know it doesn’t. I am quite disappointed.

I like their "I know what I want", "I know my budget", "I just want to browse". I apply this same logic when I go to a club.

The dealer isn't going to do shit and I would be bummed too . You can still tow a trailer to get lumber and haul furniture but is a messed deal .

Now that you say where it lived, I'll double down on the 'inspect the frame' post. With a ball peen, probe and borescope.

How long have you had it. Most dealers have a return policy, now a days. Example: Some are 5 day's 500 miles.

I was hoping to see the add myself. Just curious how they worded it. Was it for that specific vehicle? I have seen dealerships advertise with a good price (like SR5 prices), but show a pic of a sport or pro and then at the bottom it says something like "options will vary"

There is a ton of rust on that hitch. At some point, a reasonable person would say that you purchased it knowing the condition.

The OEM hitches are not known to rust like that, so it would be better if they replaced it.

Your strongest argument is that you were told that your truck had an OEM hitch with a wiring harness that was replaced by a superior product, but this information was misleading.

Even if you give the sales person the benefit nof the doubt, and it were an honest mistake, then you are still owed the transmission cooler.

I posted the ad as a pdf link below. Also the key page as a JPEG. You can see, they didn't mention this in their list of packages when they were going through each sections about the truck. However, at the end, in the "Dealer Notes" section, they did mention "Towing/camper package".

Thanks for posting OP. While misleading, unfortunately I imagine that will be a tough argument to pitch, after all technically you can tow a camper..

    Sales people suck.

Thanks a lot, everyone, for helping me out here. I have been really enjoying the new truck -- I have waited to buy a Tacoma for at least 5 years. So I will try not to let this bother me too much.

I do have another question. Since I don't have the tow package, can I still two over 3500 lbs? I saw on several online places saying that the limit to 3500 lbs without tow package is mainly due to the Class III vs IV hitch. My aftermarket hitch, as you can see, is rated to 7000 labs. So my question is whether I can tow a bit more? I know I don't have the transmission cooler, but I can watch the transmission oil temp through my OBD II reader. I will also be only driving local with short distances (if I tow a heavy trailer at all).

    Thanks!

I personally wouldn't. Not without a properly equipped truck. You mention, local w/short distances. That's harder on the tow vehicle, (lot of stop & go) more than a constant hwy speed.
