My 2016 Limited came with the tow package included. It easy enough to check if you have it.

Was looking at adding the transmission oil cooler, engine oil cooler, 130 amp alternator, heavy duty battery... to my 2016, cuz it doesn't have the tow package either.

Saw an OEM engine oil cooler on Ebay...$1,025!!!!!!! Is this a typo?

There are aftermarket oil coolers, all of them the radiator type. Most for between $80 and $125. Is there that much of a difference?

    Alternator, around $250 i think.

All in all, adding these things after the fact is a pain, and expensive.

Factory. I have towed up to a 3800 pound cherry picker with a manual transmission. Would not want to do much more.

To be fair, it does have "a" tow package, just not "the" tow package. I mean you can tow with it as it sits. It might be lacking in some areas. You will need to look into the wiring to see if it is a 4 way or 7 way wire. 4 way is just left, right, brakes, and running lights. 7 way is what you would need for electronic brake control. Personally I will never tow anything heavy enough with my Tacoma to need brakes. You just don't have enough truck.

Most states require brakes by law on trailers starting at 1500 to 3000lbs, depending on the state. I'm not saying that people should do that with their Tacomas, just that the limit is lower than most think of needing brakes.

True, but for those types of trailers, surge brakes are acceptable or at least they are in FLA. If you have ever pulled a trailer with surge brakes vs electronic brake control, it is a night and day difference. The Tacoma has a 6400lbs towing capacity. I have no desire to pull that kind of weight with surge brakes. Honestly, I would be terrified pulling that kind of weigh even with electronic brake control. Not thrilled with the idea of pulling that with a truck that weighs 3700lbs

True. Surge brakes are not a pleasant experience!
For me personally 3500-4000lbs is all I would want to tow any distance. Up to the towing limit for very short, very occasional trips around town would probably be ok (for me).
