Hello, i was wondering since i was looking at suspension kits for my truck. I did notice that mine is a regular 2WD, i also noticed that some kits offer there lift only for 4WD. So in turn would that i mean id have to upgrade that first? Not sure how any of this works. I am a first time Truck owner: Status, Noob.

    Thank you!

Will you be doing anything with the truck that will require 4wd?
Will you be doing anything that you need to upgrade the suspension?

Yes, i wanted to do a suspension lift on it. I will be taking to the ranch and doing off-road things with it. Pretty much want to build it to a TRO.

If you're doing the lift for looks or off road trail running and not smashing into rocks bigger than a bowling ball, there are plenty of lift kits that fit 2WD WITHOUT the use of inexpensive spacers or lift blocks.

4x4 specific stuff are usually the heavier rated front springs from what I've seen as the hardware for the additional driveline stuff adds the weight to the front. All the suspension components are identical in application I believe.

What's a "TRO"?? Did you mean TRD?

So yes, there are plenty of kits for a lift on a 2wd. Search here for lift and see what happens.
If You think you need 4wd then you bought the wrong truck.

    Lot of cluelessness here.

Third gen has no 2WD designation for aftermarket lifts.

That referred to 5 lug trucks in first and second gens which are no longer available.

Every 2016-2017 has 4WD suspension and you will be buying 4WD suspension parts for it, 4x4 or not.

Funny even the smartasses here don't have a clue either.

Lifts are nice but their purpose is articulation, travel, ground clearance etc.

Imho 4x4 is more valuable than a lift in most cases and a locker even more so.

What's wrong with an SR5? Not lowly at all. It's just stickers and some upgraded amenities. If you're planning on upgrading, it'll be cheaper to upgrade the SR5 and have better final results for less than the TRD package if you're just looking for a basic truck to play with. You can even find complete take-off stuff from the OR packages that are for sale if you really want to stick to the Toyota stuff! It should all just bolt right up.

I was kidding. I love my SR5. It fits my needs perfectly. Did some towing this weekend. Picked up a hot water heater friday. (OMG never go to home depot on black Friday all I needed was hot water.)

From an aftermarket perspective, maybe. Rear lockers and stuff can still cost upward to $1000 not including labor. The amenities alone will rape you on costs: Moon roof, crawl control, e-locker, power rear window, dual zone automatic climate control, 12v power outlet, push button start, LED Lighting, Qi wireless charging, fog lights. I doubt it's cheaper to upgrade an SR5 to a TRD than simply buying one.

I did post "....if you're just looking for a basic truck to play with". Perhaps I should have just mentioned "TRD OR suspension"?
