When I lost my keys to my last vehicle (no immobiliser) it cost my $8 to get two keys cut at the dealership.

I can have a key cut anywhere for a couple of bucks. Can't do that with a chipped key. Well you can, but it will not start the truck.

While this may be true, it is also true that I can jam a screw driver in the ignition of your truck and start it. Can't do that to an ignition that requires a chip.

OP. Thanks for posting a pic of the exact ridges on your key. With a little bit of internet searching and basic knowledge of hand tools, I could easily copy that. And knowing that you likely don't have an immobilizer.....

Most places that cut keys have a sensor to tell you if there's a chip in your key.

OP take your key to the local hardware store or wherever you can get a car key made and have them test it for you. It'll take about 10 seconds and it should be free.

It is also true with my 35 years as an electronics tech I can bypass your immobiliser system and steal your truck too.

    So that makes us even.

I'm older and can afford good insurance.

    Take it!

I'll buy a new one with the Insurance money.

I too am an electronics tech, retired. The difference is it will take you quite a while to disable my immobilizer. The screwdriver method works in seconds.

You may be older, but not by much. I can, and do, afford good insurance. Why would I want to take your truck? It has no immobilizer, so it doesn't have any of the good options!:p

This is an old thread, but if anyone is still watching for posts I’d like to know if a 2.7L 2009 should have a factory chirp chirp (my term) or if that’s just if you have a chipped key. Chirps when it’s locked and unlocked.
I bought this truck with a generic key and generic fob. mine doesn’t chirp. My truck has the security spot under the clock but I’ve never noticed it blinking. There also is a sound buzzer thing installed (factory) under the hood.

If you are in the USA and have a 2.7 liter 4 cylinder you do not have an immobilizer so no chipped key.

However if you have remote locks with a FOB you should have a "chirp chirp..." unless it has been turned off in the ECU or the chirper has been unplugged / removed.
