So I'm doing a compression test on my 2.4 manual trans and I feel like it sounds funny while cranking. Not sure how it sounds on camera. Thoughts anyone?

All plugs out, throttle open or closed produces same sound. So far 2 of 4 pistons are 180 psi. Doing the rest now.

It spins fast because there's no compression with the plugs out.

Cool, thanks. I didnt remember it sounding that way last time I did this.

New problem. I cant get the hose out of the hole. The hose is just spinning inside the fitting that's screwed into the plug hole...

    Freaking HF tools...

Can't you use a socket to get the fitting out? If I recall I needed a deep 18mm (?) socket to fit on the piece that screws into the spark plug hole. It was a tight fit.

I've tried pulling up and turning, pushing down and turning and the hose just spins inside the fitting

    FU compression tester. I WIN!

Had to go buy a looong skinny screw driver to get down the hole occupied by the hose and was able to get the round fitting to loosen.

    Done!

    1 - 180
    2 - 180
    3 - 170
    4 - 180

Should I be concerned about #3?

Are there any symptoms that you're trying to address with this compression test? If everything is and has been 'normal', I wouldn't be concerned with it if I was in your shoes.
With the age and miles we're getting up to on our 2.7s, when the weather warms a bit, I'll be checking the valves and valve lash. Haven't been under the valve cover in the 3 years I've owned it.

Engine idles like its unbalanced but doesn't have discernible miss, I can feel it all throughout the RPM range. plug #3 did have a very slight amount of shiny residue (maybe oil?) on the ends of the threads, nothing on the electrode or tip of the plug.
