Does my truck come with rain sensing wipers?

Yeah, the auto wipers on my 2001 BMW 330ci worked great. Man, that was a fun little car to drive, I still miss it.

 

Those two vehicles are my only experiences. Prior to those, I thought they might be a cool gizmo.


In the end for me, some good beam-type wipers and RainX additive keeps me very happy.

 

I've got rain-sensing wipers on my mazda, can't stand them. Only option too, and it always moves to max whenever a drop hits the windshield- terrible

 

My wife's Mazda has them but I have yet to experience how effective they are, or are not.

 

My wife's 2018 Mazda CX-3 has rain sensing wipers and I love them. Here in the PNW, we get a wide variety in rain severity and have found hers to be quite adaptable to our conditions throughout the year. I was actually hoping my truck would have them when I was shopping around. Before the Tacoma, I had a 76 VW Bus. Didn't even have interval wipers so I'm enjoying that at least, but I do often find the rain to be somewhere in between two distinct settings whether it's interval or steady. That's where the rain sensing ones shine, IMO.

 

Maybe their tech got better, ours is a '13 and it goes psychotic when it senses rain and i have no ability to turn it down, just OFF, HIGH SPEED, or INTERCONTINENTAL BALISTIC PROJECTILE

 

read the owner's manual? Reading ain't so bad. Try it out!

 

+1 for the Bimmer rain sensing wipers. My wife’s were stellar and very rarely needed intervention.

No need to waste time applying it and none of the glare from the hand-applied stuff. Prior to this whacky winter here, I had to go faster than the lowest intermittent setting just a handful of times.

Do you feel the same way about climate control? Or was your rain sensing just poorly implemented. I love a good implementation of climate control.

22 Mazda 3, they work well. I forget they're there until I hit a car wash.

Of course, don't get me started on the auto brights. Those default to on every time you start the car, there's no toggle switch like the Tacoma.

 

I get it that some people like having all the gadgets, that's fine. But, if controlling the variable speed setting on wipers impacts your ability to operate a motor vehicle, you shouldn't have a license.

 

I feel that way. We've only had three vehicles with ACC and only one worked somewhat okay after I manually adjusted (taped over) the ambient light sensor. I actually like and prefer the manual controls in my Taco. The only downfall noticed is the lack of rear vents in the ACs. I have to run it a bit further to the extremes when folks are back there.

LOL, yeah, until you're trying to deal with a bunch of drunks from south of the border (the MA-NH border that is) weaving all over the road in a storm. The last thing you need to be doing is fussing with the wipers constantly.

 

I don't use either. I set a temperature and it stays there. Where I live, I leave it on defrost and feet otherwise the windows constantly get fogged/frozen over. Plus, some air still exits the normal vents. I don't like it blowing directly on me. During summer it's pretty rare I even use A/C. If I did I was probably out fishing all day.

I don't see how that changes much lol. Hands are right there. Maintain distance and keep your hands on the wheel? You should be able to do wipers/turn without even taking your hand off the wheel. If the wipers need a faster setting it's a pretty quick maneuver to take one hand off it you need to. I live in Montana, and in the parts I live in, I just assume 90% of people driving after a certain time of day are drunk lol! When you go out to eat and you see the bar lined up - when it's the only bar for 20 miles - you just get the feeling those people are driving home.

Now if you were talking about a Tesla style touch screen being distractive, hell yea, that I agree with. Trying to hit certain buttons on a touch screen with a bumpy road? Forget about it. Just wing it. I'll never buy a vehicle that puts climate controls and such inside a touch screen. Ever.

 

Your wipers are absolutely rain sensing! Turn the windshield wipers to the "on" position. If there is rain on your windshield, they will clear it off. If there is no rain, they won't do anything other than move back and forth.
