just waiting to hear back from dealer if they accept my deal, getting cold feet last minute if right move, i have 09 access cab 4 cyl 5 speed that im trading and it has been very good to me,i have test driven the 2016 and loved ride but it wants to keep shifting, i've seen the atf level issue and would hope toyota has too, so are there more bad posts than good posts? and if anyone has a 16 that is meeting their expectations and getting the mileage that is advertised for the new v6 i'd appreciate hearing about it. thanks in advance.

Fuelly says 18-19 is average MPG.

Not better than before by much.

50/50 split on if the trans stops shifting like crazy. YMMV.

Getting 17 mpg all city on 2016 Limted with only 116 miles. No trouble with shifting for R/D. Drives fine with no problems. Did grease the universal joints. This is my first Toyota and love it . I always had Fords.

yes on the shifting/getting around 20-21mpg, looking back even though manual transmission is insane to get with LA traffic, probably should have waited and opted for the manual transmission. Oh well, not that much of a pain.

At 3,000+ miles my shifting has not noticeably improved. When slowly to moderately accelerating, it continues to shift up way too early so that it lugs down to about 1,000 rpms between 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th. Then as soon as you move the pedal 1/32nd of an inch it downshifts. In 2 words - it sucks. I hope that Toyota comes out with a flash to reprogram the tranny, but I doubt it will happen. Of course you can just take off like a maniac every time you accelerate, but that's not my style, especially when I know I will need to brake within seconds. I like getting an average of 20.5 mpg when it's mostly city driving, but I drive with a light foot. I'd rather get 19 mpg with a tranny that knows when to shift! Before I get jumped on, I know all about the ECT button.

I have been getting 18-19mpg with 50/50 city/hwy and irritating trany shifts for first 1500 miles. This weekend I took a 400 mile round trip into the mountains (5000 ft elevation gain). The trip up gave me 20.5mpg (calculated). The trip back was a pleasant 24.3 mpg. I was happy with was appeared to be better shifting patterns. BTW....my mpg gauge has been within +\- 0.1 mpg as compared to an actual calculation! This is way better that my Acura or any rental cars that I have experienced.

No one has shown anything from Toyota acknowledging shifting gets better. I think it's either they are getting used to it or have convinced themselves it's getting better when it's not.

I'm not an expert on this, but just visited "ask.cars.com" and found this on adaptive transmissions................

An adaptive automatic transmission adjusts its shift performance and how frequently it changes gears based on how the car is driven. Most automatic transmissions available today have this capability.

If you use a light touch on the throttle and seldom floor the accelerator pedal, the transmission's electronic controls will adapt to those patterns by providing smoother shifts and changing to higher gears sooner. On the other hand, an adaptive transmission will respond to aggressive driving with crisper shifts and quicker downshifts for passing.

Some transmissions are quicker to learn specific driving styles than others. BMW, for example, says its automatic transmissions continuously adapt to the style of the current driver, and other manufacturers say it could take longer for noticeable changes in shift quality.

All vehicles with adaptive transmissions use microprocessors that read signals from sensors to decide when or if the transmission should shift. Ford, for example, says that during hard cornering, the transmission may hold off on shifting even if the accelerator is floored or released.

Adaptive transmissions not only adjust based on how a vehicle is driven but also where. If the transmission recognizes that you're driving in hills or mountains, it might not shift to the highest gear because it knows it will probably have to downshift soon to maintain your momentum uphill.
