The fan can also be used to inflate a plastic sex doll for the passenger seat

It's good for a 47% increase in power AND MPGs.

Is there a resident comic artist in the group?

    here is the scene:

crackedmirror (leaning over the passenger side front fender, running wires to relocate the ECU): "I'll show those guys... didn't believe I'd do it... this is going to be the best mod ever".

Motor (in a taunting voice): "Hey Fan, you're nothing but the radiators bitch."
    continues...
"I heard you're only useful while waiting for left-hand turns."

Fan Shroud (speaking aggressively): "You leave Fan alone! Without him, you'd be toast!"

In truth the fan shroud serves a useful purpose when the truck is in traffic or low speeds.

Air flow through a fan is increased by the shroud. The reason is the air flow tends to tumble over the fan blade tips. The shroud prevents the air tumbling over the tips.

You can see the same effect on aircraft with the upturned winglets on the tip of the main wing. The air flow is prevented from falling off the wing tip. This has several effects, increased lift and shorter wingspan.

Even though it's legal in the state of CA, I don't partake- just not my cup of tea.

No shroud on my five lugger since the last wreck. New radiator in place. No heat issues yet. Gonna put a shroud in when I replace the condenser and ac lines as I think it might have a slight effect in traffic jams in DFW in the summertime.

I haven’t had a fan shroud for 240,000 miles, but trying to remember if I took any lefts at traffic lights

"Does the fan shroud serve a purpose besides providing emotional support?"

If you plan on carrying the shroud on commercial flights as an "emotional support part", I'd recommend confirming with the airline before arrival.

I mean, there are obviously more logical, previously proven choices than a fan shroud:
