Does the foil backing on sound deadener material have a use?

    The foil acts as a heat shield. I guess it also provides a different density so attenuates different frequencies. Suggest butal based deading for over head and vertical applications.

    It's a constraining layer. It's essential to a CLD. Thickness and material dictate its effectiveness.
