At least Toyota probably won’t change the orientation for ten years, so we have five more years to complain about this version.

Lots of new vehicles require you to commit to a wholly non-standardized and inconsistent cockpit, complete with an “infotainment” that is a huge mishmash of screens and buttons and sub menus accessed by disparate dials and touchscreens and touch pads.

For me, it used to be truly atypical oddities that caught one’s attention — like when you drove thirty manuals and then suddenly couldn’t get one into reverse because you didn’t know that someone invented a safety release sleeve that was partly hidden by the shifter boot.

Yeah, that’s right. And the kids these days just say an updated version: “swipe left.”

No bother. This is my first vehicle where you don't have to reach all the way over to the radio to change stations or volume. Oh the horror !!

I thought i was the only one haha! I hate the layout! The volume should be UP & DOWN, and to skip or go back a track should be LEFT & RIGHT. Please Toyota fix this!

Yea, this drove me nuts at first. I pulled the steering wheel apart to try to change it but the PCB is a membrane if I remember correctly so you cant just switch it, you would have to reprogram the damn thing. I just use the controls on my radio since that thing is so backwards.

We have 4 cars and this is the only one thats like that. 40k miles in and it still pisses me off every time I drive the truck.

Why just the other day my wife was asking if I could turn the volume left because the baby was sleeping.......o_O

I don’t find it challenging either. It just seemed like an odd design decision to me. I mostly posted in hopes that someone had already solved this minor bother and I could do the same. Sorry for being so damn entitled to wish that something was different about my truck lol.

    Yup, strange ergonomic decisions.

Worse than volume, is the left button controls the screen on the right. The right button controls the screen on the left. Go figure.

No it isn't. You always turn the volume UP, not right. My TV has a left-right bar on screen but the remote goes up and down like everything else in the world. Toyota wants us to believe this is engineering but it's just a fuck up.

If you get an aftermarket head unit with an iDataLink Maestro you should be able to program the buttons to the functions that you would like during the initial setup process. Not sure if it bothers you that much, but that could be one workaround.

Not saying it's intuitive but that was probably Toyota's rationale. Most TV remotes aren't usable without looking at the remote.

Me? I normalized all the MP3s on my phone to the same volume, so I don't actually adjust the volume often. The most frequently used button on my steering wheel is the horn. I prefer the 2005-2011 steering wheel design because it allows me to reach the horn with my thumb without taking my hand away from the 9 and 3 o'clock positions.

Hell I haven't even used half the buttons on the steering wheel.

Can't tell if serious or sarcastic over text. But yes, most of the music I download are in MP3 format.
