Does welding sliders to the frame void warranty?

I agree with you. I'm just passing on what the dealer told me. In reality, it would be a huge pain in the ass to fight them not honoring the warrenty due to "frame modification" or whatever they will want to call it. I'd be curious if anyone has been in this situation and had some frame issues after slider install, but could prove that frame issues didn't result from the mod.

How would this work if your truck is eligible for the frame recall? They try to blame the welds for the rotted frame but then this recall comes out were thousands of other trucks without sliders have rotten frames.

That's the smartest decision...until the dealer complains about stray paint marks around frame holes. :p

When I went into Toyota for an oil change and mentioned the standard Tacoma vibes I got "you have VERY aggressive tires" and promptly stopped listening to me.

As far as the Magnusson-Moss act...it is there and it is true, but getting a dealer to agree to it can be a hassle. There are plenty of times in the Subaru world I've seen people blow up completely stock cars and get the "driver abuse" comment or having a different cat back exhaust being blamed for driver abuse for knocking rear struts (a common STi issue in the GD years), etc, etc.

I would think if you want to keep the potential for a frame swap open the less you do to the frame, the better, including chopping anything to run 285s.

Welding them to the frame....well,that would depend on how you weld them.

On my 96 tacoma ...many many years ago.
I had a set of square tube sliders (double tubes) that had 3 attachment points. I had those attachment points welded to angle iron (about 6" wide) with gussets. Then....the angle iron was nested under the frame. The angle iron was stitch welded to the frame. The angle iron was used to better distribute the weight under the frame instead of the sides. The stitch welding, was so it doesn't warp or stress the frame. I never had any issues and the sliders took all sorts of offroading abuse.

If I was gonna do it again...I'd do it the exact same way.

As for warranty....couldn't tell ya. I wouldn't do it.....

    enough to go over stuff
My truck is new. Not worried about the frame warrenty. I just plan on having to do some frame maintance over the years to keep it looking new.
