I currently am running 275/ 70r17 BFG KO2 with 4runner TRD PRO 17" wheels on my 3rd gen tacoma. The wheel is 7.0" wide and the approved range for the 275 BFG is 7.0-8.5".

I am looking at upgrading to a 285 or 295 AT tire. My question is that by going up a size, my current wheels will be narrower than the approved tire width range of 285/295 AT tires (approx. 7.5-9.0) Is this a problem? Will I need to upgrade my wheels to, or can I get away with a wider tire on the 7" wide wheel.

Feel free to direct me to other threads.

some shops will not mount a tire that is too wide for a specific wheel
