Wondering if anyone knows if their insurance company (specifically Allstate) covers for theft or totaled their mods such as After-market stereo system, lift and suspension mods etc.

The best way to find out is to call them.

^Insurance companies aren't that fussy - as long as the truck is roadworthy, they'll insure you. You should ask because many do not cover mods by default (I.e. in case of total loss they write you a check equal to the depreciated value of a stock truck), so you'd need to purchase additional coverage, something like $1 for every $200 additional insured value.

Most have something called an "agreed value" policy, provided you set that up. It's not automatic.

You'll need lots of documentation (like sales receipts, if you paid to have it installed etc) and maybe an appraisal.

In the past i was told from a company that they cover up to a certain amount of mods included in your policy, and anything that goes over that amount you will need to purchase additional coverage from them. Call them and find out.

    mods are not worth anything.

a vehicle Title with a VIN number and a specific factory configuration is all an insurance company worries about

they don't have time nor documentation for mods [insert cheezy product from some random place with no way to track return value at auction]

-homeowners insurance- would cover mods and non-factory stuff, not the auto policy

I am covered to a certain dollar amount (I think 15% of totaled value). Past that I will need additional riders.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
My State Farm coverage will include any mods I can prove I have with pictures and receipts.

Called and spoke to them probably a week or two after putting my Icons on.

Yeah, call them and ask. But what they'll probably tell you is to save documentation, receipts, and photos.

most insurance companies offer a dollar amount of coverage for accessories....similar to motorcycle coverage. i have full coverage through Progressive and added an addition $4000 worth of coverage for all the aftermarket equipment including rims and tires. it simply added approx $12.00 a month to my payment which i was perfectly fine with. call your insurance company and check with them.

    thats great.

back in the day when I was an insurance adjuster half my job was denying anything that was
not found on VIN lookups. add ons was a big NOPE but homeowners would cover that stuff.

I am no longer an insurance adjuster, it's been over 30 years

Oh I'm sure adjusters are trained to say no. Doesn't mean it isn't covered under the policy.

People get away with what others allow them to get away with.

In the case of the OP State Farm pays no matter what so they are going to bully him into claiming against his own policy so they can jack his rates up later to recoup the cost.

    Nothing changed in 30 years.

    Absolutely. Nothing.

    Just saying.

I have Allstate. When I got my Tacoma and my agent was making my policy, she asked if I had more than $1500 in non handicap accessories. That is what my policy will cover up to. I honestly dont know if I pay extra for that. My agent is a person I have been family friends with for a long time. She goes through my policies a few times a year looking for any ways to save me $ or get me a better policy.

I just received email from my Allstate agent and she stated all is covered. I just would need to provide receipts when filing a claim. Glad i checked..

    KEEP ALL YOUR RECEIPTS

I had Allstate and when one o my truck's was stolen they would add on money for things I had paperwork for.... no paperwork, no way to prove it was on/in the truck.... plus things like my radar detector etc that was not hard mounted onto the truck was not covered. Call and ask them and/or get better coverage. I keep full coverage on everything I own

As far as not "hard mounting" your Radar detector, what does that entail? My GPS is just suction mounted to the dash, but the wires are run down behind the dash to the fuse panel, and hard wired in.

I contested that it was mounted and hard wired to the truck. They didn't cover it. They view "hard mounted" as in a radio, amps, lights etc.

I am covered with progressive up to $1000 for aftermarket stuff and that's included for no extra dues. Any more than that I have to pay extra monthly dues. Currently pay extra to cover my canopy. I learned about it from when I put a previous car into the ditch and ruined the aftermarket exhaust, front light bar and rear diffuser. They cut me a check for $500 and the rest went towards my deductible. That's all I got because I didn't pay for more coverage.
