Just wondering how many of you’s 4.0 V6 burns or use’s oil . How many miles you got ? How much does it use/burn over a given period of time

I have 121k on mine ‘07 and no use or burn (yet lol)

    I’m just curious

The 1GR isn't known to burn oil excessively. In fact, most recent Toyota models are fine, nowhere as bad as Subaru, BMW, and VAG engines:

I burn maybe 1/2 quart in 5k miles and have just over 100k miles on a 2012 V6. One of my previous trucks a, 2000 3.4l, has a little over 300k on it now and it still doesn't burn much oil either. 1-2Q in 5k miles.

Most manufacturers consider 1 quart every 3000-5000 miles normal. Some use that much, some don't and it isn't necessarily a bad thing if yours does. But my 2007 has 208,000 miles on it and I've never added oil except when I change oil. And I did 10,000 mile oil changes for the 1st 9 years I owned it. That worked out to about once every 6 months. I don't drive it but about 10,000 miles a year now, so I just change it every 6 months now regardless of miles.

With the dodgy dipstick design on the 1GR (and 2GR for that matter), I'm not sure I can tell if the oil level has dropped 1/2 qt, to be honest...

Yea I bead blasted the end of the dipstick which makes it a lot better to read , plus if you wait 10-15 with the dipstick out it will show up perfectly with a scuffed up/bead blasted dipstick

Should've kept it until just before the emissions warranty expires  That's about the only drawback of burning oil - the cats get poisoned prematurely.

Using coolant is for sure not normal, but it is normal for flat motors to use quite a bit more oil that most people are used to coming from inline or V motors. Subaru spec is like 1Q/1000 miles and that was fairly typical for sure in any of the motors with forged pistons. BMW and Porsche(at least my last experiences) also tend to have fairly high oil consumption as a norm.

We are buying an outback later this year.

I guess you never heard about headgaskets, wheel bearings, or rotting frames from Toyota. Junk!

    LOL.

    edit: 2011 v6 135k. No consumption.

My state inspection tried to tell me I had a bad oil leak. I then said to 3 of the workers, how can you tell with the freshly applied corrosion protection? They looked at each other and said never mind.
