You go in with a check in hand ready to buy they WILL take it off. They wont lose a sale over it is my guess.

There's a GM dealer close to me that does the same thing. It's pin every vehicle on their lot. They even add this stuff to their used cars.

Congrats on the truck. But I wouldn't call it an unheard of deal when the initial deal was ridiculously loaded with BS fees!

Often this is not the actual dealer but rather initiated by the regional "franchise" holder

GST and SET are notorious for it

None of that crap from my dealer in Oregon, but I know that some dealers do that. When I see that, I walk away. I would never buy anything from a dealer who plays those games!

The add ons seem vague, Id go elsewhere. Unless maybe the dealer tastefully installed add ons and I pay less than MSRP.

The process @ramonortiz55 detailed in the thread link I posted above is probably the best bet for those who do not have a good handle on the ins and outs of dealership sales processes. There are short cuts if you know the business but it is just better to stick to a systemic process for those who need the hand-holding. It can be a dicey game to play if you really want to get the best price, keeping track of dollars and cents when adding in variables like trades, financing, etc. Plenty of people drive off car dealerships every day with a new (or used vehicle) thinking they got a great deal when in reality they didn't get the most competitive pricing because they let something fall through the cracks in calculating all of the variables. Ignorance is bliss. Ramon's process is easy to follow if even slightly cumbersome or time consuming...in the end should result in a competitive deal if you don't deviate from the process and shoot yourself in the foot.

these fees are a bit ridiculous, the one that grinds my gears the most is nitrogen. Air is 80% nitrogen, so you are basically paying to fill up 20% of your tires..for practically no benefit. It makes sense in formula 1 but not for a Tacoma

Oh, I did have one dealer that did try to force a dealer package on us. They would not budge.... I went somewhere else.

What about the Toyota dealership in myrtle beach? I haven't paid attention to their fees but we go on vacation every year down there and they seem to have a wide selection of tacomas

That's a reflection on that particular dealership, not Toyota. I don't recommend buying a Ford just because the Ford dealership in your town is better than the Toyota dealership. There are just as many shitty Ford dealerships, you just happen to have a decent one where you live. Not saying Taco > F150 because for many it's not but don't let your bad dealership unnecessarily steer you away from a Toyota. I went to multiple Toyota dealerships in my state and had no interest in doing business with them. In the end I did find one that met my expectations albeit out of state.

I think air is something like 78% nitrogen anyway.

+1, half of that is destination charge but the rest is pure crap if you do not want it. Toyota has what they call vehicle protection which I call the $400 bottle of wax. 2 dealers I dealt with on my Tacoma understood that I did not want it and felt it worthless. While sales manager was on vacation at one I got her back up sales dude and he tried to push it one me I just flat out asked what part of no he did not understand. When I bought they tried to add nitrogen and said they add to all vehicles. I just told them "not mine". It was April 31st and they needed the sale so I had some leverage. I would just tell the dealer to stick it and remind them that yo have a choice. It is either that or give you a bigger discount off MSRP.
