Why would I want Toyoguard if I already get 2 free oil changes? What's with all the phone cables and hood and mirror protection crap? There's $1,000 worth of crap I don't want and I noticed ALL the Tacomas on the lot had this same stuff on them.

that ToyoGuard is absolute bullshit and I wouldn't pay it no matter what. I'd definitely pay the clear bra paint protection. The rest is whatever. tell them you want to order one without all that and they'll start to knock the cost down.

Yep, that's a distributor issue. Gulf States Toyota adds crap on cars and trucks around here too.

I agree with you. I looked at a vehicle here in NC and it had the Southeast Toyota Distributor fee for $56.65 and the Southeast Toyota Administrative fee of $904 added in for the privilege of buying their vehicle. I was told it was non-negotiable. Went somewhere else where it was.

This is the same dealer that adds $1978 to all their vehicles after MSRP for useless crap. I made a thread about it a year or so ago. Now they're ordering trucks with $1000 worth of garbage PLUS their up charge. Basically all their Tacomas are $3000 overpriced.

Dealerships in GA fall into the same bullshit but I finally found a dealer that didn’t tack on all that shit. The shitty ones do the similar added costs, particularly the “glass etching” shit that totals up to $600+ somehow.

Nope, nothing like that from my dealer in Oregon. I’d tell them to pound sand!

Went south 100 miles and purchased my SR from NC. They had the ToyoGuard and Phone Cable Package that I didn't want on window sticker. Dealer said they couldn't remove it so I walked. Didn't get out the door and those two "packages" mysteriously fell off the bottom line.

Why does Toyota have regional distributors when no other auto maker has them that I'm aware of?

I was told it was so they could stay in tune with the customers in each region so they could offer the vehicle each region would benefit the most from.

Par for the course in SET/GST. Just about every Tacoma delivered to an SET/GST dealership is going to have some of that garbage on there. You can try to "order" one without it but it'll be tough. They are lining their pockets with those things and they know it so they won't be happy about removing them. It took me a bit to realize the above when I was searching for my Tacoma but once I did everything was crystal clear.

Don't buy from SET/GST. Period. They are trash.

The very first dealership I dealt with outside of SET was a breath of fresh air. All of that shit just disappeared and the cookie crumbled exactly as I wanted/planned.

mine had ToyoGuard Platinum on it as well as the Toyota Floor liner mats for another $309. I didn't pay for either of those, but I still got them. I made them remove the price from my deal, which they did and showed me the paperwork to prove it as well.

It's their business model and it works extremely well. Basically the distributor is an extension of the manufacturer.

As far as the reason the distributors add this crap?
Because many customers want that crap and are willing to pay for it.
I know of no company that offers stuff that nobody wants. If they do, the business won't last.

Just because a few of you think it's a terrible deal ( I do too for the record) we are in the minority. As a matter of fact, everyone on this forum is in the minority. Most people just buy a vehicle and drive it.

In Texas with the Gulf States distributers it was similar. Pinstriping and all kinds of junk added.
All of my purchases in New Mexico and Colorado have come pretty much like they came off the boat or into port.
