His quote says they (I assume the dealer) "farmed" his out to an aftermarket company. An aftermarket remote start can still use the factory key fob but the range is very limited. So most people either got long distance fobs or add cell service. No 16-19 Tacoma came with factory remote start.

I did my research on this before buying the N2 Designs unit for my 19. Mind you I can use my OEM fob to start the truck.

I mean mine works fine the way it came from factory as shown in the video on post #1.

That's what we're trying to determine here: who's key fob works for remote start with no modifications

2021 TRD OffRoad Premium AT here and it works with the remote. I still have my remote connect trial also, so not sure yet if it will work on expiration.

Apparently I just didn't have the timing down on the buttons. Just went and tried it after watching OP's video and my remote start works. '21 TRD OR

2020 TRD OR AT. Doesn't work. I've heard somewhere that it's only tacos with the tech package?

It's not the tech package, it's hard to track down specifically on the Toyota website, but it is any TRD sport/offroad, Limited, or Pro from 2020 on that has an AT. It needs entune 3.0 with the remote connect option, but you only need to pay for the service if you want to use your phone or smartwatch.

I've noticed that it can be difficult to get the cadence right when pushing the the lock buttons, as you need to wait until it beeps before pressing again. And it also doesn't work if I just get out of the truck(I don't know if there is a time delay or if you need to get far enough away before it will work). I've only used it a handful of times in Oregon, as our weather is mostly mild.

My truck is about 20 months old now, so I am sure the connected services have expired, but I showed it to my brother in law the other day.

Went straight from the dealership to the installer to have the Drone Mobile installed.

Have never tried the factory remote start.

Yeah I've tried a bunch of different methods. The lights flash the same as in OP's post but the truck doesn't start.

Yes. I have it and it works. However, WTF is with the truck turning off as soon as you open the door? Is this a defect? Makes no fawking sense to have remote start, then have truck turn off the second you open door.

Ok, got it. So then, the remote start is only to heat up or cool down the cab before you get in? Only to have it turn off the second you open the door? Are all remote starts (other manufactures) the same. It's annoying as hell and I stopped using remote start.

Never seen this happen until I got my truck. Parents have had Dodge and Chevy that would stay on unless you got in and depressed the brake pedal and I've had a Nissan that was the same way.

It's a Toyota push to start thing. It is pretty annoying and IMO was just lazy engineering. There's no reason for it to shutoff when you open the door. And yes, this bothers me more than it should. :D

My 2021 TRD Sport Premium starts with the remote no problems. It took a few times to figure it out but it works. I never subscribed to the remote connect or any other free trials either.
