How so you start your tacoma? you say " it not working as the fact that the truck shuts off when you open door" this does not make sense to me.
With my experience when the truck is running you walk up to hit and unlock the doors then sit in and hold break pedal down and it should shut off. Not when you open the door. Please explain.

I did when I initially got the truck back in March but deleted the app several months ago.

My does not currently work but from what I have read from other users is that when you open the door after using the remote start function the engine shuts off and you have to start the engine again. Is that not the case?

Sorry this is confusing lol. I know all my remote start on my Tacos and cars all did this.
    You remote start.
When leaving house to truck you push unlock but vehicle is still running till you sit in the seat and press on the gas pedal it will shut off
or if you want it to continue to run you just turn the key on and put it in gear and go.
My new 2021 have used the remote to start and stop but did not try to walk up to it and unlock doors to get in yet.
I usually just run for a few minutes to cool it down the remote stop it. This way when I go to the taco it is cool inside.
I will be testing it today and let you know how it went after unlocking doors to see if it shuts down when I open the door now I am curious lol

I have been putting aftermarket remote starts in since 1992. I have never seen a factory (not dealer) remote start in any vehicle until the early 2000's. Before that the dealers were telling people the remote starts were a factory option, but it was not. They simply had it installed by someone like me, I did a lot of dealer work in the 90's.
Now if the installer didn't install it correctly and did not hook up the brake take over wire, yes you could drive away with the car if you broke the steering column so you could turn the steering wheel. Otherwise even if you were able to "drive the car without the key" the steering wheel was looked and you couldn't turn it.
As far as the truck shutting off when you open the door, even the aftermarket remote starts, like my idata link, do that UNLESS you cut a certain wire on the truck and tap into it when you install the unit. I choose to use the T harness kit so that I did not have to cut any of the wires in my truck, it was literally plug and play (minus programming the unit). I would rather the truck shut off when I open the door instead of cutting the factory harness. But if someone wants an aftermarket remote start for their Taco that doesn't shut off when you open the door, it can be done if you are willing to cut your factory wiring. Note, I put my remote start in 2018, if they have newer units that work differently, I wouldn't know...

Mine does NOT work, 2021 TRD OR w/AT.

Though I've never used the connect app, maybe I've got to use the free trial to activate it?

In other words the installer who installed all my AutoStart remote did it wrong cause all my vehicles had 3 that had that system put in and they all did still run when doors where unlocked until I turned the key or press the brake pedal.

No, that is an aftermarket unit. It is supposed to work like that. Unfortunately with the Tacoma, in order to keep the truck from shutting off when you open the door, you have to cut into the wiring harness. A lot of people don't want to cut into the harness, they just use a T harness instead.
Most other vehicles, even when you use a T harness for the aftermarket remote start will stay running when you open the door.

I understand now. This means the factory installed remote start will work the way most mention that the taco will turn off when opening the door. I will try it today thanks.

    Yep...
Just a note, there are some aftermarket remote starts, that in certain cars like my wife's 2012 BMW that will let the car drive away without the factory key fob. So if some people read about stuff like that, it does happen with some of the aftermarket stuff.

I know in my Escape (not OEM remote start) that my son drives now, it shuts off when you hit the brake if the ignition is not turned on. My Wrangler keeps running when I open the door and it allows me to transition to driving without shutting down. On my Taco, it shuts off when I open the door. Not sure if it is when I grab the handle to unlock it or when it actually opens. I'm usually grabbing the door handle and immediately opening the door.

Where did I once complain about pushing a button to start a vehicle? Again, no factory remote start system allows you to just hop in a car and drive away. Laughable that you call someone cloning a key as just hoping in a car and driving away.

All of your examples are of someone cloning a key fob; they say that in the articles if you bothered to read them. That has absolutely nothing to do with a car being remote started. If a thief has your key fob cloned it doesn't matter if the car is remote started or not. They can steal the car; as far as the car is concerned they have the fob.

This is an issue for push to start cars; not cars with remote start. Seems like you're confusing push to start and remote start.

Have a good one man. Not gonna argue with you anymore... but get your rebuttal in if it helps.

That was how my old F150 (factory system) worked too. I could get in and as long as I didn't hit the brake before putting the key in I was good to go. It's not the end of the world the car turns off but each time it happens I think to myself how dumb it is.

How the aftermarket systems work is there is a shut down wire connected to the brake wire. When you get in the car, you turn the ignition forward and then press the brake pedal. When you press the brake pedal, it shuts off the remote start - But since the key is already in the on position and the car is running, the car stays running. It is actually a simple system on non push to start card. For non push to start cars with immobilizer systems, like chips in the key, or transponders, there is a module connected to the remote start and the car that either clones the key or has a spare key in it (directed 555U).
Like I said in a previous post, it also depends on how the installer installed the remote start. So there are a lot of possibilities. An installer could simply not hook up the brake wire and the car would not shut off when you pressed on the brake.
No use anymore arguing over any of it because it is really apples to oranges...

What was the point of you asking me to post a link and you don’t even read them. I would want to either. Got a family member with the auto theft task force that says bring the truck over and he’s more than welcome to take control of VW
I would be happy to continue this and give even more proof but clearly that hasn’t done anything but escalate this and get even more complex. So I reached out to my father in law (over 20 years with auto task force) worked side by side with NICB and Auto Makers and confirmed everything I already said.

He stated people have no idea what capabilities these vehicles have and all the flaws over the years that have made his job much worse.

He then said “I’m going to bet he thinks the earth is flat as well” and I didn’t want to assume your response so I just laughed it off.

So I will leave it at that

Well guys I started my Taco from the FOD that was fun lol took 3 attempts till it did start mickey mouse set up if you ask me. I walked up to the truck and opened the door and behold the engine shut off. I think I would prefer the old after market remote start over this new one but aye it's on there just gotta live with it.
I would like to thank daysusmc for the his explanation of the OEM versus the after market remote starters as that answered a lot of question for most Taco owners.
    Thanks really appreciated.
Another thing is the older remote start at least the side marker lights were on so you could tell the truck was running but this FOB shows no lights when running so you have to go outside and listen if the engine is running or not now that is a pain. Could it be because I have my lights set up on automatic or not that affects it.

It was for me till daysusmc explained to me the differences cause I was used to the older remote start where you could open the door and sit down and push the brake pedal to stop it or turn the key to drive off. The new Tacoma is like what you say the engine shuts off when opening the door or unlocking the door.

It's not an issue, but us 3rd gen owners are a stubborn bunch. We can't stand the fact that the steering wheel volume and fast forward/reverse buttons are in the wrong location, and don't even get me started on the missing left side bed cubby.
