We still have not figured out why some trims have the remote start that works and the same trim in another truck the remote start doesn't...

Yeah I really haven't seen any patterns so far. There's clearly a fair amount of user error, but maybe it's possible that they've all got the required equipment but somehow it wasn't activated?

It almost make me wonder if vehicles without connected services were not meant to have the remote start module installed, but some of those vehicles still had a module installed due to an error during production.

I read that all model 2020-2021 all come with the remote start as standard equipment.

Well I had to buy an aftermarket remote start module to make my “standard equipment” actually work then apparently. o_O
If what you read was true, then why would any 3rd party manufacturers make remote start units specifically for the 2020-2021 models?
    Something doesn’t add up there.

You should ask daysusmc that question he knows more about it then I do. Maybe I missread it but I know my remote start works. I did not activate the remote connect as I do not use my phone to start the truck or anything else offered in their free trials.

It could be in the programming. I forget the name of that software that I used, but I remember going into the programming when I bought my truck in 2018 and shutting off the seat belt chime. The software name is somewhere on this forum. I bought the cable off of ebay and the software too.
Not sure, but maybe it can be turned on through the software. This is just a guess

I have a 2020 TRD OR with tech package. From what I've read in the past is that you need to have the advance tech package to have the remote start. If you are doing the 3clicks and hold and you see your lights flashing and wont start after, then you do not have the remote start option. I had to install the module to get the remote start option.

That is easy said I have the remote and it takes me 2 -3 tries before it starts lol. You can't go by just one try.

Maybe there's a correlation between using the connected services free trial and remote start working?

I didn't use it, and mine doesn't work. I've tried it at least a dozen times.

Yeah, it is confusing like mentioned I have no connect services and my remote start as worked from day 1 that is 3 months now. Maybe it has something to do with my Premium package. I found this in the premium package

Short Range Key Fob Remote Start (requires active DCM)

This feature is available on the following packages
    TRD Sport
    TRD Premium
    TRD Off Road
    TRD Off Premium
But comes standard on Night Shade
    I hope this helps

I think the most confusing is the words Toyota remote connect that mean to connect with your phone to their apps so you can start truck, download your music etc etc.Nothing to do with the FOB remote start.

Agreed, it is confusing there is no mention of using the key fob. Just know that if you have Remote Connect, you have the ability to start the engine with the key fob.

Yes, I know but I do not have remote connect and mine starts with the FOD lol but I know get what you are saying.
What I would like to know is DCM separate from the remote connect or do they work together.Cause as mentioned earlier

I haven't enabled any of the "trials" of any of the services on my 21 and remote start works with the FOB.

You do have remote connect. You may not have set it up, but your truck is equipped with it.

I never set up my remote connect either (I don’t plan to pay for it when the trial runs out, so I never bothered activating it). My key FOB remote starts works though. I’m curious to see if it continues to work after 1 year... Many on here have said their key FOB remote start worked for the 1st year and stopped working as soon as their remote connect trial expired.

My remote connect trial ended two months ago (I did not renew it) and my key fob remote start works fine

    From Toyota:
"Remote Connect equipped vehicles built before 11/12/18 were required to have an active Remote Connect trial or paid
subscription for the key fob to perform remote start functionality. The logic has been enhanced to no longer require an
active Remote Connect subscription for the key fob to perform remote start functionality."
