She knows enough to get the vehicle from point A to point B in an emergency situation, but I couldn't even get her to drive part of the way out to Colorado (or back). She claims that it is too much responsibility, and doesn't want to chance scratching or breaking something unless we're in dire need.

Wife's first car was a Ranger in a manual.
She does not like driving the Tacoma. She said it's incredibly slow and doesn't like the long throw clutch and higher catch point. I had to remind her it wasn't a Nissan and explain the shitty factory tune.

My significant other came with a manual ‘85 SR5 4x4, I had a (yuck) Bronco II. The Ford only lasted another year and about 110k miles before major repairs became too much for us, the Toyota and my wife are still around.

I don't have a manual Tacoma - couldn't find one in a DCLB. BUT, I have a '68 BRONCO with a 5 speed that neither my wife, daughter, nor son have driven as much as 2' so far (bought it in 2010). They can all drive a standard tranny, too!!!

Hell no, I can't even stand riding next to her on a bicycle..

She wanted to learn manual on my boosted M3 and I laughed, she tried in my CJ7 and it was a failboat mission.

She does. Even knew how to drive one before I met her. (Her VW Bug :anonymous: is a 5 speed.) My only concern with her is my truck is so much bigger and handles so much differently that her car, especially with the decreased visibility and such from the RTT. And she's so short (5'1") that she can barely get the clutch in all the way.

Yes ish. My wifey can do it in a emergency and it would be trial by fire. Therefore why I kept my 6spd GTI and let her pick out the Taco options. Aka AC SR5.

My wife can get around ok with a manual, but she doesn't like it or understand it very well. The last time she drove my Jeep to daycare she panicked while parking and forgot to push in the clutch. Pushing the brakes as hard as she could it didn't stall but instead crawled over the curb, over the bushes and berm and dropped down onto the adjacent street. Scared the crap out of her. I'm just glad she parked away from the building!

Then on the way home she stalled it at the top of the hill near our house (flashing light, stop and left turn at the top of a 1 mile long grade). She kept stalling and rolling back a few feet at a time. This area happens to be a cell phone dead spot. Apparently she rolled several hundred feet backwards down this hill over a period of 10 min, while traffic basically went around her. Eventually a passing motorist stopped and helped her out.

Ever since then she just doesn't want to try it anymore.... I'm trying to think of ideas, things to do that might help her with her confidence and also make this more fun for her.

I'm still contemplating an MT tacoma, but I really want her to be able to drive it (and even enjoy it)

Avoid hill areas for a while when she is still learning. Use the handbrake technique if its easier.

definitely, it was one of her selling points!

well not really, but kind of, ha ha.

And if she didn't, I'd make sure and teach her.

A friend of mine bought his wife a manual car so she would learn. It's still an important skill!

I wanted a base MT TRD OR. I wanted a warrantied locker and MT.

The compromise however I made for my wife in order to get the truck was to get an AT and heated seats...so basically had to get it fully loaded...waste imho but shes happy with it. She can't drive an MT and wont learn...

My Wife is British so ordering a manual wasn't even a second thought. DON'T LET YOUR S.O. LACK OF MANUAL DRIVING ABILITY DETERMINE YOUR TRUCK CONFIGURATION!!!!!

Three on the tree stakeside? No problem for my wifey- she can also dance a Cajun rythum just like a Willy’s in 4WD. I’m so lucky for her, but I must confess to you all here- my 2017 is an AT, our earlier Toyota’s were MT’s.
