One of my favorite mods. It's so simple and easy yet gives the truck that nice tight German feel. How do they say, good'ntight

Worked like a charm - mine was so bad I took it to Toyota - the guy said he never felt anything. If you went over a bump with the steering wheel off-center (like turning into a driveway) - CLUNK!

Now, no clunk anymore. Best free mod I've done to the Taco

Old thread, but I need to try this asap! My truck is off the pavement every day for work and it feels like crap with this steering clunk/slip/play. Will look at snap ring and also wedge a zip tie in there.

Maybe I'm not as flexible as you, but I couldn't tell if my snap ring was in this groove you speak of. I could wiggle my snap ring around, didn't seem all that secure to me, but couldn't really see where it belonged, or if it was indeed where it belonged now

I did however get a zip tie wedged all the way through the spot it's suppose to be, but when I turn my wheel left/right without engine running I still feel slop in the steering column. We shall see tomorrow when the blacktop ends.

It doesn't slide, but I can wiggle it around a bit. Definitely not solidly in place around shaft.

Also the zip ties I wedged in there did nothing for my clunk. I pulled and pushed on my steering wheel and that seemed to quiet it a bit.

Maybe I'm immature and late to this thread, but the last post caught me off guard and I laughed loud enough to wake the wife.

I'm having this issue right now, all of a sudden my steering wheel was clunking and turns out the snap ring came out. How did you go about getting it back in?? Tap, tap, taparoo??

Mine wiggles like hell too.. the shaft can actually clunk up and down even with the lockring around the shaft...

My question becomes.. Is it supposed to be seated inside the end of the shaft housing up top somehow ? Mine is in the groove.. but god it's loose... Mine looks like the picture above..

My clunking is 100% coming from that spot..

My locking is loose as hell.. in the groove.. but loose and allows play..
