it looks like crap now. that was a fresh cheap paint job from the previous owner, really cheap. surface rust started showing through it within a year. a couple years ago, we had to replace all teh brake lines as they were popping leaks everywhere (fix one, another one pops).

Surface rust is in style now. Still a straight truck though.

The 5-lugs aren't shit-wagons .. for their purpose, they do quite fine. They are built to a parts-bin budget.

The Tacoma X-Runner, however, was a 5-lug chassis, with a V6 motor. You are incorrect in that assumption.

has anybody said oil on the pavement.

if there are oil drippings in the tire lanes, likely to see some spin right after it starts raining. the old motorcycle rule was avoid the middle part of the lane if you get caught in the rain to avoid the oil drippings.

i've spun mine trying to leave an intersection. come to the next intersection and no issues.

Absolutely mine will spin up, especially after a fresh rain-start. Riding over the white stop strip is a sure way to get them really spinning.

Oil on the roadways can be treacherous. I've experienced that treachery with my motorcycle, a steep incline, and oil residue sluicing down that incline. Hey ho, no brakes, no control, no steering ... dun dun dun, WIPEOUT!

I will agree it is a budget truck with barely par suspension and probably no traction control, which may contribute. It's still a truck that's light in the ass and oily roads will make any vehicle do that to an extent.

LOL! Just how many rakes and lawn mowers are we talking here?

All kidding aside, you're probably right. I've never towed a thing, and the only thing I haul are moose and elk quarters and furniture for relatives.

On the other hand, horsepower, tow ratings, and payload ratings speak for themselves.

And you're right about those ratings, but you're also proving my point. Everything that you have done in your truck you could do in mine, despite the fact that mine is a "Five Lug" with a sub par suspension, 2 cylinders less, 1 differential short, and 1 less lug . (It does sound like for what you do you would need 4WD, admittedly.)

Yes I bought it for remote hunting in shitty weather on crappy trails so 4WD was a must. Still enjoy burying my foot in the V6 from time to time, until the gas light goes off.

No hate on the 5 luggers, I'm just kidding around. Those things last FOREVER

If I could do it again I would get a gen 2 4 banger regular cab 5 speed 4x4, put a mid rise canopy on it, nice 2" lift, tall super skinny tires, and air lockers front and rear.

    Mmmmmm

you need to get the weight transferred to the rear before laying on the pedal more

I can spin my tires all day long on dry pavement unless I get the weight transferred by slowly hitting the gas

now with new leafs its ever tougher since the rear is now higher
