I was bit by our family dog several times as a kid and all were my fault I would pin it in a corner and pester the shit out of her. Kids will be kids and dogs will be dogs. Its not just the dog that needs to be watched its what the kids are doing to. My ausie hates when people run up on him like kids do so when there are kids around him I make sure there parents know they cant run up on him till he is calm.

People shouldnt hug dogs. Dogs use "hugs" as a sign to show dominance. I trust my dogs. And never hug them. One is 13, human years old and half deaf. Glad to hear that your child is back to being a three year old.

The safety and well being of children is a parents number 1 priority nothing comes second. I know you love your dog but dogs are pets and live only 10 -14 years on average. Your children will be around a lot longer than that, so love them and protect them. Worse scenario, what if it was some other peoples" kid that got bit! You don"t want to go there.

either way its a bummer situation. keep the dog and hope it doesn't happen again. or loose the dog and have that thought that it was a one chance thing.

    i feel for you Joey.

I Say give the dog a second chance but know your role. Its your job to keep your child (above anything else) and dog safe. If a dog bites a person intentionally with out just cause I vote give it a dirt nap. In your case you don't have an accurate account of what happened. Now I see no reason a dog should ever bite a child, they should never see a child as a threat. I have worked with my daughter and my dogs to ensure that they both understand their roles. Start making your dog give up its toys or whatever it finds valuable to your child. If you can do so in a save manner!
