$700 for an xray and tell you he sprained his leg? I'd find a new vet. They are not all equal. I've referred many friends to my vet ( 26 yrs and 3 dogs ) after hearing them complain about the bills they got hit with from other vets.

Ha ha, I have to do the same with my 70 lb golden doodle. He refuses to jump in. I have to lift him in, but he'll gladly slowly climb out. He hates drivin'. :D

He's a bit shy, but this ramp has helped tremendously.

I’ve never dealt out so many likes! I’m proud of all you guys for taking such great care of your dogs.
We had a “mostly” black lab for 16 years. I swear his last three years I carried him more than he walked. I picked him up and put him in my Taco and took him out as well. I still miss him and he’s been gone for three years. His entire face was white and he was very, very slow but he still loved to go for a ride in his truck.

Just want to add on to this while on the subject for anyone who happens to see,

Don't let your dogs jump off your beds either! Repeatedly doing that over the years is terrible for their front joints. For sure lifting them up/down is the best bet but a ramp of some sort in either scenario works too.

    I got this.............https://www.chewy.com/range-kleen-foldable-dog-car-stairs/dp/206091
Works great and is only 1.5 inches when folded. Fits right behind the drivers seat when not in use and I hold it in place with a small bungee wrapped around the 2 headrest post.
Easily opens or closes with one hand and cost $70.00 and holds up to 300lbs. Only took our 57lb Pit/Boxer mix Bridgette one week to get used to. She only uses it to get in the truck. Getting out I just grab her harness to take the weight off her legs as she climbs down. She wasn't to crazy about climbing in or trying to jump up. Now she goes right in with no hesitation. It actually helps me out also as I don't have to pick her up repeatedly.
I always have a harness on her when we go out so I always grab the harness to help her up the stairs and have her feel more confident.
You should always help your dogs up and down stairs or ramps to give them more confidence and safety. Best way is to have a harness or collar to grab on to. And never put your dogs in the bed of the truck to travel. Its dangerous and illegal in some states.

I deleted my rear seats so the dog could have a nice flat platform to lay down on/stand on. I've been thinking about making a ramp that I can just slide in and out from the under the seat delete for her. She's not too old at all yet, but never too soon to start being easy on their joints.

If mine jumped out the back door of my tacoma he'd reach terminal velocity and explode on impact.

With our big dogs we always lifted them down or gave them an under-stomach "assist" so they didn't put all their weight on their front legs from height.

Sorry to hear that, injuries are tough.

My old lab had knee surgery and was never right afterwards.

I built a 60/40 platform to sit on top of the folded seats but have since removed the seats and sat the platforms directly on the floor.

I also use this ramp. Works perfectly since I put carpet on it instead of the grip tape that was on it originally.

Mine tore her acl jumping into the truck about 4 years ago. I’ve never felt so bad in my life. She tried to jump in and missed. Now she gets lifted in by me.

Do you have more info with your platform you made? And what is that cushioning on top of it? I take it the passenger seat is not able to go fully slide back with the rear seats in that position?

These steps take only one hand and about 5 seconds to set up and take up very little space. Well worth the money and you will save your back.

Both seats can go back fully if I remember rightly, I’ve since fully removed the seats and just have the platforms directly on the floor.
