After seeing some ideas here, I decided to create my own platform for the rear set of my double cab for my dog. He's a big lab at 95 pounds and isn't exactly graceful, so I wanted something as low as I could make it. I removed the rear seats, and built this platform out of a 2x6 ripped down the middle, and some 1/4" plywood. The whole unit comes out with two bolts, and I can reinstall the rear seats. I blocked off the rear storage areas with some 1/8" ABS plastic mounted on a hinge and velcro at the top to keep it closed. Right now I'm pretty happy with how it came out.

BUT, it seems my dog hates being in the truck. He loves going for rides in the back of my wife's CRV, but really hates getting into the truck. He's capable of jumping in, but for some reason is hesitant. Even once he's in he's really nervous which is very unlike him. If anyone has any suggestions on how to help him with that I'd love to hear ideas.

Did he fall or crash trying to get in once? One of our Labs got caught by the screen door as it closed. It surprised him more than anything but he's still leery of that door.

Also, all of our Labs seemed to prize stability while in a car. If your platform moves or doesn't have traction that could be the problem. FWIW ours like the back seat of my wife's hatchback more than my Taco.

He stumbled a few times trying to get in. I think that's his main problem. I actually ordered a set of collapsible stairs to get him into the truck. Hopeful that will help. He has no traction issues because the foam pads that I glued down hold him in place really well. I think he feels safer the CRV because he's enclosed on all sides whereas in the truck he has a lot of room.

Take your dog to places he loves in the Taco. Dog park, walking trail whatever.
He will associate rides in the Taco with places he loves to go.
Use the wifey's car for vet trips.

    Sweet dog. She looks happy.
Noticed she is on a Steelers blanket. Is that in case she has an accident? Cause it should be used as a diaper! Go Cowboys!

Don't forget to give him a Taco too. Associate good places with good food! :D

That is an awesome idea! I have been running a cheapo universal dog mat and it is ok but my lab and GSD manage to have it deformed and smashed into a corner by the time we get wherever it is that we are going!

Awesome. I want to build something similar incorporating a raised lip around the perimeter. Pup is still getting potty trained. 9D32DF9A-8ABE-4E58-BDDD-1F51C48E95AE.jpg
