My golden has the same problem and I've been meaning to make something similar. Is it anchored in place in any way?

Nope. It just sits there. It's pretty stable.

Hey Matt - I know this is 2 months old but just wanted to say thanks again for the idea and the info - got mine completed this weekend (it took awhile for it to warm up in Shit-cagoland).

Works beautifully and the dog loves it. Like others I plan to leave it in place, at least anything back there won't be rolling around under the seats.

I'll post some pictures if I have the chance.

Cool. Glad to hear it. And, I'd love to see some pictures.

Cool thanks for the idea. Anyone attach one of these to the floor? I want to take our Rat Terrier wheeling with us, but i am worried that if the truck goes completely over or on its side that he will get crushed, and or we will get injured with the platform flopping around the cab.

Here's a couple pictures - pretty much the same you did with a small change.

#1 driver side, platform in place. I used 1/2 inch birch laminate plywood. Home Depot had it cheap and it was nice and straight.

#2 I had an old foam camping sleeping mat I no longer needed - I cut that to fit on the platform in place. Gives Rocco a grippy texture to hang on to, and since it's padded, it's more comfortable than the wood alone.

#3 driver side with the mat in place

#4 is the passenger side, and the only change I made from Matt's design was to notch out the corner, it allows him to use the truck floor as a step up to the platform.

Rocco is a 5 year old all black German Shepherd. He was 106lbs at the last visit to the vet, so I had some concern it may not be big enough for him, but it works out well, and he really likes it.

Rocco and the truck pictured this past winter.

Planned - I'm going to get some spring clips at the hardware store and attach them to the bottom of the platform to attach an entrenching tool, axe, and hand saw. They'll be out of the way, keep them from rolling around, and they'll be handy when I need them.

As Matt pointed out, it's easily removed if you need the space, but I intend to pretty much leave it in place. Best mod I've done to the truck so far, and a cheap one at that.

SLANDER - I doesn't move around at all - but if the truck goes on its side it will certainly not stay in place. I'd be concerned that it could hurt your dog if it does.

Great job. Good idea cutting that corner, too. My dog is pretty agile, but I could see the need for one more step as she gets older.

Nice idea strapping tools to the bottom, too. Always there, out of the way, and quiet.

I like that ring you have hanging from the receiver, too. I may get one of those. Otherwise, that truck looks *exactly* like mine.

I agree that if you roll the platform will fall. Don't roll.

Lol the two times my truck has been on its side I didn't plan it. Once I build one and I figure out a good way to secure it I'll post pics.

    Thanks Matt -
I keep that D-ring in place in winter for recovery. I started doing that when I had the FJ, but continued it when I got the Taco. Every season I have an opportunity to pull someone from the ditch where they slid off the road.

Brilliant Idea ;) Made mine Saturday, two trips to Homie took about 4 hours, made a cardboard template first. $20 for plywood, $5 for RV indoor/outdoor carpet. I designed mine a bit different, wanted to retain access to AC center storage console.

yup. I put a 10 " sub with a small sealed box that fits right behind drivers seat. I can slide my seat far back enough to be comfortable but if you're much taller than 6' you might run out of leg room. could either put in behind passenger seat or use a more compact sub if needed

Do you have a rough measurement front to back from the center console by chance? I am planning on doing this this weekend. I currently have the 60/40 seats but want to know how far back the console goes in case I decide to throw one in with a couple bucket seats later on and would want to pull it out and re-carpet it just to cut a couple inches off

I built this a few months back when driving across 4 states for my doggos.

Built with 3/4" plywood, 2x4, 3" memory foam, and color match upholstery from craft store.

I finally built one for my dog. He hated it. He crawled on top of a small toolbox to avoid touching it. I kept it for a month hoping he would get used to it, it ended up in the trash. I was heartbroken.
