Can someone tell me the tailgate height? The little one is only 18lbs but the big one is 70lbs so I would rather not have to lift him in. Hes a good jumper so hopefully its within his range until he gets long in the tooth.
Also does anyone have experience with a heated dog bed or some sort of heating unit. Im wondering if its realistic for the dogs to be be back there when its 15 degrees out. I can open the back window to let some heat in and get an electric bed but still...

I have a small dog, so I picked up a $50 hammock style cover. It unhooks quickly so I can still have people in the backseat if I need to.

To keep him from moving around or climbing/scratching and to keep him safe(read:to placate the gf), I strap him into a harness that plugs into the seatbelt buckle.

He hops in, let's me strap him in, and just lays there or falls asleep immediately.

Holy shit where did you buy a hammock cover for $50?! I bought the Amazon basics one for $18 shipped. That unbuckles so people can sit in the backseat.

I got it off Amazon. I got ripped off in hindsight, but at the time it was for a different vehicle and I wanted it to be absolutely bulletproof.

Mine doesn't even have buckles. It has those lame tighteners you would find on a laptop bag that are annoying to adjust.

It came with some extra harnesses though, so that kind of makes up for it.

My two numbnutz just ride ol' natural. Between kids, carseats, and dogs it would be never ending in trying to keep the back clean. I tried for the first few weeks but it was tough.

I might be the only that lets thier dog ride in the bed.

My husky is tethered to the front bed rail and the side tie down. This gives her enough slack to lay down but only far enough to stick her head out and get some air. She only likes to ride in the bed. This is only for quick rides to the park. For longer rides i strap down the kennel in the bed.

My dog goes with me a lot. Rides loose in back seat folded flat covered with piece of carpet and old bed spread. Hops in no problem. Taught to not get in front and she doesnt. Have a shell with crate in back for when wet/muddy from duck hunting/training.

We have something similar, from Orvis.com it was like $80+ but they are thick and fit well, even have one in the Lexus, damn spoiled pets. Also have a seatbelt attachment that keeps both of them in one place.

Well my dog is still a puppy and even then he's a French Bulldog so he's not going to get big enough to worry about having to put him in the bed.

Yeah I use the same thing that attaches to the seatbelt buckle and then I attach that to his harness. He is spoiled and even has his own bed in the backseat.

I don't have exact measurements, but the tailgate is about the same height as the backseat entrance.

For short trips, he just sits in the back. For longer trips, I put down a seat cover and put him in a seat belt harness.

I got a big black dog in the front seat riding shotgun, and an even bigger black dog stuffed in the back, riding on top of a shotgun.

When we hit dirt roads, my crunchies dismount, run around frantically peeing, and then sail into the bed of the truck to complete the rest of the trip, illegally. Hay, my truckbed is a sanctuary for illegally riding hunting dogs.
