    That is tough when it happens. My current buddy of 13 years is still doing good, but I know his day is coming due to about every 6 months having to get a cancerous tumor removed from somewhere on him. He has always followed me everywhere, layed by a door until I come back through, and slept with me either in the bed or beside it. My girlfriend's neighbor has a GSD, and they leave the dog outside at all times as far as we can tell. I always go up to the fence and talk to him. You can tell he craves interaction, it's so sad.

    The two breeds I was looking at where the Doberman and Cane Corso. I went with Doberman. Wondering in this thread if anyone has pics of their Cane Corso. That Cane is on badass dog.

    13 years - you are so fortunate(blessed IMO) to have had your buddy (love his expression - happy)! Hopefully you will have him much longer; but it is wonderful you realize the 'gift' you (and him) have, and the memories will never fade - I know mine haven't. That is a shame about your girlfriend's neighbor - some (most) people should not have dogs OR kids....but I could get carried away, particularly regarding the latter point.
