Tends to get weak and crack especially when your Tacoma is lifted when you slide off the side of the seat with your backside when you get out. I have made the habit to put my left hand down on the door threshold and put my weight there as I jump out. Mine is still in perfect shape with no stress marks even. Call it OCD but it works

I can't figure this out. I have had 2 1998 Tacoma's with north of 200k on the clock and no issue with the side pieces.

My present '04 only made it to the 50k mark. Its toast.

Like Jon, I plan on fabbing up a higher quality version out of aluminum sheeting.

Looking forward to see what others are doing.

Fuqu ponying up $75 for something that is just gonna break again.

I'll pay $75 for a replacement if I can put one of Jon's fabricated support brackets in and know that my fat ass won't snap the plastic trim in a few month's time.

To all the people who bought theirs for $75, consider yourselves fortunate. I shelled out a bit north of $100 when I bought it back in 2012. They saw me coming from a mile away

I'll be offering these for sale at a reasonable price soon. :fingerscrossed:

There going to quit making them eventually. So protecting a good one is paramount.

    Pretty much stock right now
Mine has four cracks in it. At least that's what I can see or feel in the dark right now. But it's still on.

Mine was a little messed up when I got my '02 truck with 130k mi. A few cracks and the hex-washer screw had pulled through the plastic. I took it off, sewed all the cracks up with a 'speedy-stitch' awl tool and reinstalled it with a bigger washer under the screw.

Over 175k mi now and 2.5 years later, still going strong.

I'm lifted now and do slide across it more and more as the seat cushion keeps packing down, so I expect it will need replacement at some point. Until then I get to smile at my handy work every time I get in and get out of the truck.

Monday or Tuesday I'll have the new one after adjustments to cad file for better fit. Here's a picture of a broken cover and the way it would have to be attached. Countersunk screws painted the trim color would be the way to go. Around $40 plus shipping will be the cost.

Looks like a great fix to me. Is the side cover the same on a 98-00 and 01-04?
