I'm not in Kodiak anymore. That was prior service. I'm in beautiful (and expensive!) Sonoma County, California.

No need to argue over opinions, fellas. It's to be expected that people won't always agree when you come to a forum. Thanks for the feedback and try to remember to see what you can learn from someone, even if you don't agree with everything he's saying.

I believe that the Tacoma 4.0 SC has similar output to a 4Runner 4.0. Should we assume that the 4Runner has a shorter engine life than the Taco?

If the SS would severely diminish the life of the engine, do you think Toyota would let you buy one for it?

The 1GR is a beast of an engine. It can easily handle it.

The T4R and the Taco have the same basic engine. Only the top end is different. The longevity of the engines shall be no different.

As long as the dealership properly installs everything and you keep up the regular maintenance you should be just fine. Toyota builds a pretty decent engine.
Now you may run into issues if you start trying to drag Raptors at the light

I don't think anyone has actually said that by adding the SC that it will "serverly diminish the life of the engine" or that the engine can't handle it.

As everyone knows, it's an option provided by Toyota so it must be ok.

I think all that people are trying to say is that one must understand that the more things you add, the more that CAN go wrong but that doesn't necessarily mean that it WILL go wrong.

I'd personally love a SC on mine! But if adding the SC will have aboslutely zero effects other than increasing HP, then why don't ALL tacoma's come with one? (Don't answer that question!)

It's no different than adding a Tonneu Cover or painted side steps. Sure the Toyota can handle it no problem. But there is a risk of something going wrong (ripping, chipping, bending bla bla bla) with each of those "extras" that you might have to $deal$ with at some point in the future where if they were not installed in the first place, you wouldn't!

    Kapeesh?

    • TRD exhaust iirc is no larger than stock, I dont see a benefit.. Id look into a 3" system
    • delaer will not install URD pulley
    • URD fuel pump- very very good idea
    • TTC catch can- seem to be total flakes and not come through... I suggest u Check into another manufacturer
    • Headers will only cause smog issues if u get longtubes which delete the front cats.. If u get short tubes, then u can have the cats welded onto the new headers
    • URD y-pipe would also be a suggestion.
    • The AFE stage2 Si intake has a good track record.
    • a catback will never be a smog issue since they are only changing things from the "Cat back or y pipe merger" literally.
    • look into the OEM fuel pressure regulator mod
    • "superchager=cobra" is moot.... OP its ur truck, and I assure you that its much safer passing and merging with the upgrades.
    • the engine is not always subjected to boost anyway, anyone with a boost gauge can see this..... I can cruise up a very large grade nearby at 75mph in 4th, and theres zero boost unless I get on the pedal harder... The bypass valve works

and I HIGHLY suggest looking into a valve body upgrade
