I have had an LED dome light for a while now in my 2012 Prerunner double cab and never had an issue (or at leased that I noticed) up until my mother-in-law was riding in the back and she pointed out that my dome light was flickering while I was driving. It does not do this when I have the switch set to "off" just while its set to "door"

A few months back I did tap into the blue ground wire in the drivers side A pillar for my courtesy lights so they would come on when the dome light does in the "door" setting, but like I said I cant say for sure how long this has been going on for because its dim enough to not notice unless you are sitting in the back or looking at it.

I went through today and rechecked all of my connections and none of them are loose and I can't recreate the flicker. It only happens when I am driving, does anyone have any ideas? any help on what to check to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated.

When I am on my way back from school tonight I will see if I can safely get a video of it to post what I am talking about

have you cleaned the contacts of the switch in the dome light itself. Could be that bouning down the road is causing the issue of dirty contacts.

Check the door switches. The Dome Light socket is always powered on from the DOME 7.5 ampere fuse. In the DOOR Position the Body ECU supplies a ground when the door is opened via the door switches. When the ON position is selected the the Dome Switch supplies a ground directly. And when the switch is OFF there is no ground, but the lamp socket is still hot.

I would suspect one of the door switches is out of position or is shorting to ground intermittently causing the flicker.

Replacing everything worn, broken, and rusted.
Mine does this when I enter or exit a few seconds then goes solid. I figured it was normal for an LED & there is probably something in the oem bulb that prevents this, eg resistance or ballast. The original bulb I replaced never did it.

Side note: it's easy to blow your fuse if you wiggle it around alot. Unplug the fuse if you're gonna clean it..

One thing I noticed is that my dome light, when everything isn't running, still gives about 7 volts to the light. So depending on the LED, it might flicker because of the "low" voltage it's getting at all times.

I have not tried that, i do know that when i originally got the led i had to finagle it a bit to keep a good contact. Ill have to try cleaning the contacts

@Jimmyh I diddnt think of that. Ill check those tomorrow. Wouldnt the door open light flicker on the dash if the switches were going?

    Possibly.

The door switches supply a ground for the body ECU Signal for each door. The Body ECU (when a door switch is activated) provides a ground path for the dome light.

I would guess that maybe since you had to force the LED into the socket when you installed it something is bent and causing an inadvertent ground and since the socket always has 12 VDC it would cause the LED to flicker when going down the road with vibration causing an intermittent ground.

Remove the cover with the ignition on and poke around in the dome light and see if you can find the problem or recreate the flicker.

It wasnt that i forced the light in, the opposite actually the metal things that make the connection were too small, very slightly too small so i had to take some electrical tape and use it as a shim... i make it sound a lot worse than it is, the tape isnt covering anything it is just a folded peice to act as a spacer behind the small led panel to help hold it in place

I'm just saying it doesn't fit properly and IF the end opposite of the energized end gets a ground it will light up as it always has power applied.

I get what you are saying and if after I check everything else, it is still doing it I am just going to assume its the poor fit that is causing this and get something else. I know there are plenty of options for led dome lights on here haha. Thanks
