Now that I think about it, I did take it to Toyota a couple times to see what they could do...they would always just replace the bulb and I remember thinking there's no way that could be the answer because it works in the 'ON' position just not the 'DOOR'...sure enough it would solve the problem temporarily, but after a few weeks it would go back to doing the same thing.

And changing the bulb used to fix the issue? Well not in my case, I have no negative signal to the wire responsible of door position dome light. Anyway, I will let you know what will happen.

I had the same issue..dome light never worked.

My solution was to replace it with an overhead console with power run from my aux fuse block.

The two times I took it into Toyota and had them look at it, that's what they said they did and it would fix it temporarily. I haven't tried it myself, but even so, there's still something wrong because it should definitely last a lot longer than a few weeks.

Seems to be worth it, better light and extra storage space, accessory mounting points, CB radio holder....it's ARB so no surprise it's on the pricey end lol.

It's the one Eon_Blue linked below.

It's flat on the bottom so I had to carve it up to match the contour of the roof. I made a card board template and then followed that when I cut into the console. I used a utility knife and only cut a little at a time. I used existing bolt holes where the rear view mirror was in the front. In the rear I had to drill some holes and attached the console's brackets to the holes with sheet metal screws. I had to bend the console's front bracket to make it work. I have to work on the rear bracket to get rid of that gap.

It holds my BTECH 50x2 nicely. I rewired one of the swithes to turn on a front facing camera. Also the LED's on this thing are almost too bright. I need to find a way to difuse them a little.

I did this back in September or so. I went on a 3200 mile road trip to Baja in November with it. I think we did about 1500 miles of dirt roads and the thing held up really well.

Oh yeah, this is the same console in Ronny Dahl's 79 series Land Cruiser.

At the time I thought I was crazy to spend that much money on this thing. After having it for several months this is one of my favorite mods along with dual batteries, fridge and aux fuel tank.

I really didn't want more wires and shit choking up the area around my lower center console.

I also added two USB charge ports to the storage thing. I can fit my tablet in there with room to spare. I like being able to keep it out of site and charge it at the same time.

Hello , today I solved the dome light issue, removed the fuse box/ body ecu, opened it and checked the electronic board, found a 0.33 ohm resistor fried! Replaced it, put everything back and voila, my dome light works again.20180220_123331.jpg

Mine works in ON and DOOR positions but only with the key in the ignition. Will not come on with door unlock and will not come on with doors open unless I have the key in the ignition. Ideas?

Mine just pulled this crap on me on a trip out to NM. It was dark and I wanted to grab something from the backseat. Usually my LED replacement dome bulbs would've blinded me the second I opened the door.... nope. Turned the key and they went on. Now it's back to normal with the door but for how long.

Old thread but current problem. I didn't fully remove the fuse box only removed the 2 bolts securing it and have gotten to the point of removing the circuit board but something seems to be holding it only along the edge containing the bank of 15 "connections" (right side of pic but left side when installed). Is/are there harness connections along that edge on the back that have to come off?
