WAIT.... The connectors don't come with pins. The pins are purchased separately and must be CRIMPED to the wires. Then properly inserted into the connectors. It's a BITCH, but if you have the proper crimper and insertion tools it's doable.

I know someone who has insertion/de-pinning tools so I was going to borrow that, just need the parts. I know. I could be spending my time doing something better.

This is the crimper and pin removal set that I bought. It might be somewhat easier and cheaper for you to buy the pin removal tool set and the 12-pin connectors, and try to swap the pin/wires over from the 14-pin to the 12-pin. But it's still gonna be difficult. You had trouble counting the pins on your existing harness... so your eyes might be as old as mine...

    All done.
Used the Dongar universal and micro-to-mini USB adapter.

Finally. After considering several options I settled with this approach. I really wanted to use the Garmin mini2 dash cam since my other vehicle had one. This makes it simple using their app no matter what vehicle you're driving.

My other vehicle uses a Dongar adapter and I was trying to use one for my Tacoma but it looks like I have a different OEM pin out on the mirror plug. Someday I'll search for that harness #.

The taps are secure when using a tie wrap for strain relief and won't pull loose. The dash cam requires a micro USB so the adapter mated it with the Dongar mini USB.
Anyway, this is pretty slick and I avoided routing a cable inside the trim or trying to de-pin and re-pin connectors.

These dash cams are so small I don't see them behind the mirror and you can't see from the outside unless you're right in font of the windshield looking for it.

Works great! On to the next mod.

Glad to see you got the solution worked out. I'm a little curious to know if other Tacomas like yours have a 12-pin or a 14-pin connector on the mirror. Dongar seems to think they're all 14-pin... so maybe yours is a unicorn.
I had a 2009 Prerunner that I bought new. It had the camera in the tailgate, but no mirror/display. I don't know if the harness was in the headliner or not. In 2014 I changed the stereo and tapped into the backup cam video signal under the dash to display on the new head unit. I no longer have that truck.

Really don't know. When I bought this 2011 Pre Runner in 2016, it was bare bones except for the TX Edition badge and those 20" chrome steel wheels. It didn't have intermittent wipers, fog lights, had vinyl sun visors. However, it had that cable from the tailgate to the headliner and that was plug and play for the camera and mirror. When I installed a hitch and Toyota towing harness it had the plugs underneath the dash by your left foot rest. That was plug and play for the lights and I could add a trailer brake if I wanted.
I also swapped the dark gray grill for a OEM silver (not chrome) one to match the truck, changed the wheels & tires, added fog lights, intermittent wipers, decent OEM sun visors. Next I'm thinking about changing all the speakers.
Very strange, who ever ordered this truck, but it's been trouble free with low miles and V6.

This was my 2009, but I had given it to my son in 2016. I sold it for him here in 2020 after he got a company vehicle.

Well that looks very familiar. I live in SE Texas also. Very nice Tacoma. I really like the black trim instead of chrome. I wish I had that satellite radio antenna.
Here are a few shots from the day I purchased mine and after a few mods like the grill, wheels/tires, fog lights, changed side rails to black and a bed step. Not all at once of course.

Apologies for the very delayed chime-in, but I'm researching Dongars as I prepare to add dashcams to my vehicles and came across this thread. FWIW, my 2013 Access Cab 4x4 V6 6MT TRD OR has a 14-pin connector. The truck was originally equipped with a Gentex GNTX 957 (Auto-Dim/Compass/Temp/Backup Camera) mirror that I upgraded to a Gentex GHSHL4 (Auto-Dim/Compass/Temp/Backup Camera/Homelink) model, which APPEARS (outwardly) very similar to OP's. The upgrade was plug & play, with no need to swap connectors shown here...

09-11 and 12-15 had some weird overlaps. I think if the reverse camera was in the mirror, you might need to look for a Dongar adapter for an 09-10. Also the mirrors are different too. Does Dongar have an adapter for 2009-2010?
