My rates have been very reasonable, but I live in the lowest risk category community in Ma and I am the lowest "step"....
The real issue with these coverages manifests in households with TEEN drivers. My kid is listed on my WIFE's insurance...So she is covered under the 2 cars insured in my wife's name. My wife is listed as a secondary driver on my insurance...my kid is NOT.
So my kid would not be covered on my Truck...BUT if you read the wording it does seem they would be covered for rare/incidental use if you can prove that they are not a regular driver of the vehicle.

Wife's insurance went from like $60 to $220/month when the kid was added...

Ouch. Mine is less than that for the full year with pretty decent coverage.

Sometimes they raise the rates hoping to get out of the state. I've heard Geico is doing it to a lot of people in MA for instance.

It was more a rhetorical question. Or maybe how I think if insurance is being required, it needs to be insurance that meets REALISTIC minimums. Property damage of at least 50K, medical at least 100K, perhaps? Quick search says 2021 average cost of new car was $47K, so that might make sense (at least on the damage side).

I hate that we need to buy uninsured/underinsured insurance knowing that there is a really good chance if we get hit, the at fault party won't be able to cover it. My buddy's Ford Edge has been hit 3 times in 1.5 years. 2 for sure, not positive on 3rd, had no insurance. My mother was hit by an uninsured motorist, and thank God she had PIP (personal injury protection) on her auto insurance, as it covered her hospital bills and ambulance ride. When I say hit, I mean she was a pedestrian that was struck by a car whose driver was not paying attention.

Checked with my agent. Other drivers are covered as long as they have my permission to drive my vehicles. If someone takes (steals) the truck it isn't covered.

My Tacoma is at this point a 3rd vehicle. I loan it to my kids quite often so they can have something to drive while their cars are in the shop. My granddaughter even drove it for about 2 weeks because of that. I'm covered with them driving.

I’d be looking for a new policy if they don’t cover the vehicle when stolen. Most have that covered under comprehensive coverage. Could you imagine having your taco stolen, flipped, and have to foot the bill?!

Odd, I agree. Is it not covered for damage it does, damage to it, both?
