I received a call from Toyota about 1 1/2 years ago with a DOOM AND GLOOM message that my 2011 Tacoma needed to get this frame rust prevention treatment, and that there had been a recall for it. This was around 2 1/2 years before my legal 12 year frame warranty wears out. I was told that a dangerous situation was occurring on trucks of the generation that I own whereby frames were falling apart and completely "delaminating" to put it exactly as they said. They said that I would need to take it in to get inspected to see if my truck needed to have the coating put on. The dealership that I took it to said that they have just been coating all Tacomas that they see come in with this recall. So what the heck right, let's git'er'done.

Up until that point, my frame had not had any particularly abnormal rust issues, and all frame rust and wear was very normal. The inside of the frame had been in excellent shape with absolutely no sign of wear or rust (I wish I had a photo of that).

Fast forward a few months later to today. The winter has now passed, and after all of the snow has melted, and I'm cleaning up my garage, there's rust drippings all over my garage floor under my truck. I thought, that's funny, I have NEVER seen this before with my truck. I look underneath, and inside the frame, low and behold, everywhere where they smeared that "Anti Corrosion Coating" on the inside of the frame, it's rusting right through from the inside out. At the rate that my truck's frame is corroding, I doubt that I will get another 2-3 safe years out of it.

Funny how this came up right before my frame rust warranty was about to expire. Yet another situation in our day and age where the cure is worse than the problem itself, and maybe even purposefully.

What would you suggest as the best method to clean the gunk that the Toyota Dealership put on?

Welcome, you said you were from Canada right?.. what chemicals do they put on the roads during winter up there?. It looks as there is corrosion of the rust prevention.. almost as if a chemical reaction with it.

Welcome to TW. Where do you live? Can you post some more photos of your under carriage? Did they put the same stuff on your leaf springs and rear shock? Those look rusted like a 10 year old rust belt truck, or is it mud?

O.P. you still need too do preventive measures 2 times a year at least, even after Toyota sprayed your frame, rust never stops !

Dang!! Hope you get it sorted. Why on earth can Toyota not figure out how to build a frame that doesn't rust itself to bits?!

So did you ever get that truck undercoated? I can say pretty confidently that you did not. As @Ffej pointed out, that rear end is just a block of rust.

My rear end does not look like that and I live in Canada? But I get my truck undercoated before every single winter, because I love my truck.

Man your leaf springs, axle and shocks look HORRIBLE

I don't believe they coat those items, which leads me to believe your truck was maybe rusty before and you didn't notice? The dripping onto the ground is due to the coating solution, I do get that, but you probably had problems before

unless that's mud - in which case i will shut my mouth

I do all the work on my truck, and I can say for a fact that it was sparkly clean on the "inside" of the frame where they put the coating. It was sparkly clean for its entire life. And yes, I did have it undercoated in 2011. I only undercoated the outside of the frame, not the inside, so the inside of the frame looked for 10 years just like it had come out of the factory. I live in Alberta, one of the driest places in North America.

This is classic no frame maintenance by OP, if the rust spots didn’t end up on his garage floor he would have never known.

Yeah the rear bumper has some rust in two spots where I have bumped it in the past. That's old news though. I've been planning to put an aftermarket rear on it anyways so I'm not too concerned about it.

There's never been rust spots like that before on the floor. And the inside of the frame has never looked like that before either.
