The more information that comes out about the ‘24 Tacoma (price-wise) the more I like the Tundra.

It has me looking at pre-owned Silverado ZR2’s. $57k buys you a lot of truck though regardless of manufacturer.

Yes it does. Those ZR2 Silvys are niiiiiice! New 3/4 Ton gasser base is in the low 50s.

Personally the SR has more than enough options for me, only thing I don’t like is, it doesn’t have a 36 gallon tank. Have to step up to the SR5 to get it, Ford was smart making it available on every trim level.

Do prefer aluminum wheels, but take offs can be found quite cheap in the classifieds. Paid $200 for an extra set for my Taco. Edit: glanced at Tundra wheels found them as low as $450. Not bad. Bought my Tacoma wheels with tires for $400, then sold the tires for $200.

So much for the only logical choice IMO.

I definitely don’t understand the small fuel tanks. Dad has a Sierra with a 24 gallon tank. When he pulls his travel trailer he gets 12 mpg. Range just doesn’t work out well here in Midwest or out west.

It sure does. Even before I crossed shopped from Subies to F350s. I am weird like that.

If Chevy and Ford didn’t kill their extra cabs, would give them a hard look too. Do like the new GM interior over the Tacoma. Drive 20-25K a year, spend a lot of time looking at the dash.

We will see if the upcharges benefit or hurt Toyota in a couple years. It is sounding like it is off putting quite a few people. Could push them into another model or leave the brand altogether.

The access cab / extra cab is my preference in a truck too, disappointed to see the conversion of the work truck into family vehicle means it loses tha cab behind the seat.

I think a lot of people will do some extra shopping once they see the price, but I don’t think the sticker shock is going to keep as many people away from buying a Toyota again. I shop the market every time I bought a vehicle, but end up with the Toyota or Lexus. I guess we’ll see if crossing into the $50,000 mark for a truck; a midsize truck, will matter.

Have you considered that just because someone prefers the ease of parking of a smaller vehicle that doesn't mean they don't know how to park?

I agree, and also shop everything on the market before making a purchase.

I would also add that the higher cost of the mid-size trucks will create more demand for smaller, less expensive, and more economical "trucks" like the Maverick. As I've gotten older my towing and hauling needs have been reduced. By the time I'm ready for a new vehicle, I imagine a Maverick class "truck" will satisfy my needs just fine.

I just assume they are shitty drivers.

The parking lot at work is fairly tight. One of our senior female clients drives an E350 dually commuter bus. If she can manage it, a hot shit 30 something male instagrammer can park a fucking half ton…

Not her bus or my work, but one of these…

We was thinking today as we are out running errands and grocery shopping. Dropping a few boxes of books at the book exchange. It is raining fairly hard today, the boxes go in the cab since the topper leaks, would be a pain in the XtraCab.

Soooo…was thinking if I were to replace my ‘21 ACLB with a ‘24 XtraCab. It doesn’t do anything better. Peak torque is what 245? The V6 makes 80% of its 268 under 2000 rpm, so splitting hairs there. Not really going to ride all that much different since it has leaf springs, mpgs are about the same, no access cab…and will cost me more money. So the ‘24 XtraCab has no real advantage over my ‘21 SR V6, actually went a little backwards.

You can’t compare the base 4 cylinder to the V6. The base 4 tune replaces the 2.7 4 cylinder.

I agree with your comment about it being backwards., with everything they did to update the 4th gen, the loss of the suicide doors feels like a big loss. Seems like that should just be a given at this point that accessing the space behind the seat shouldn’t reallly require moving the seat forward.

Tried to do the closest trim level as I could. Wouldn’t be exact. Even my ‘21 SR vs a ‘23 can’t do it exactly because they bumped the SX package mine came with to the SR5. (Sorry didn’t mention it earlier was being dragged around the grocery store and being interrupted, how dare she! :p)

So if you compare my ‘21 SR SX to a SR5 XtraCab, it is a $6,900 msrp increase. Get a bit more power, not sure if that is worth the nearly $7,000 upcharge. Yeah, there will be some added conveniences, still has leaf springs and no clam shell doors.

Maybe if it came with the coil rear suspension, then could make a compromise.

I checked this morning hoping the configurator would be live and nothing. Was it up earlier?

up to 68 within 500 miles, but no real data inside the fields, and my guy at the dealership says the configurator is for dreaming, you have to deal with what comes out of the factory that is closest to what you actually want. :/

he also said his second round of "allocations" hits today, or SHOULD hit today. They get 2 allocations per month.

How big of a dealer are they....seems like 2 allocations per month is low.

Possibly. But I expect the answer is that often the parking spaces are just not big enough for a full size truck to take one spot. Park it in NYC, you can do it and it may cost more, but that smaller truck or car starts to look pretty good. Plus the home garaging aspect. Especially the expensive loaded full size trucks, many are rarely and sometimes never used where a truck is needed. They are vanity purchases.
