Don't max out my Bilstein 6112 set on my truck?

Hi, new to this forum, Toyota's, lifts, the whole ball of wax. Here goes...
I just got a set of Bilstein 6112 adjustable struts because my 1999 Tacoma SR5 has some old strut that adjusts about 2 3/4" by way of a large nut under the spring that is currently cranked all the way up. The Bilsteins require you to set your height, then install them. But Bilstein also says you cannot set them all the way up on our truck, which is about how much lift the front of my Tacoma has now.
Anyone know more about this. I tried to call Bilstein but no answer back yet.
Thanks in advance for any insights.

I have this set on my 3rd gen and they ride great! I did speak to someone at Bilstein and I got a short answer from them saying that’s what they recommend. I would have preferred a better answer. However after enjoying how smooth they are I’m happy.

If more lift is what you want maybe add a spacer lift which is frowned upon by many.

Mine as it sits does have about a 3" lift with my other style old strut. I'm just wondering if I should just set the new struts at the max 2.75" lift since it seems to work now, or set it 4 rings lower, as Bilstein states is the max lift for my particular model. I need to maintain my current height to clear my tires, and I am wondering if Bilsteins recommended setting will be enough.
If not, then I have to take them off AGAIN, take them apart again, reset the snap ring, and hope advising against the max lift is due to their lawyers and one bad lawsuit in the past, or whatever.
And I sure don't want to spend $700 on struts just to find I should now go find new wheels and 31" tires so they fit without hitting a wheel well.
But thanks for the input, glad to hear you are really happy with yours

You shouldn’t need 3” of lift to fit a 31” tire on a 1st gen. Unless you want the extra space cause you off-road a lot.

I'm running 33's right now, hence the waffling on the setting. But the more I lay underneath and look, and spray the strut and shock mount fasteners with penetrant, and wait for the top lower strut bushings from Toyota that weren't right the first time before I start on this project, the more I see I'm maxing them out.

    Follow up....
The online company I bought the full Bilstein suspension from literally messed up my order 3 times in a row. FINALLY, the last part needed to begin my new suspension assembly arrived...
The first strut came out like it was a Haynes manual photo shoot. The next three took grunting, fire and a blood offering.
It all worked out great, and the sag from the old suspension was removed, so now it sits an 1-1 1/2” taller, and the rub between the tire and the wheel well in reverse at full lock is completely gone.
But until the new tires are on, I am not able to properly access the overall ride quality.
Tomorrow my tires arrive, and then an alignment. No more mechanical repairs will be required at that point, and the most important aspect of my new truck has been fulfilled....
I just love this little taco.
    Except the effin’ horn.
